3D Animation School

Hi,

My name is Ines,

I am interested in making a 3D Animation Course. I am already a graduate animator, but my education was mostly 2D.

Could anyone recommend me a good 3D Animation School?
(better in Europe)

Thank very much in advance,

How about AnimationMentor.com ?

Thank you,

I already asked them to send me the Information about the whole Course. However, I am more interested in a shorter course (1 to 3 months) although this one looks actually great.

Hello Ines,

What do you want to do, once you have learned 3D character animation (i.e. get a job as a character animator or work on your own animation projects)? What is your experience level as a 2D animator like? Do you have samples of your work? Answering these questions should help us on the forum to provide some advice.

go for a course in Maya Unlimited, or else 3DS Max 8

I would suggest that you go for a course in Maya Unlimited, or else 3DS Max 8. I presume that you already have a thorough understanding of animation principles and have been doing character animations in 2D.

Hi,

Thank you all for the answers and sorry I couldnt reply before.
I do know the principles of Animation, I studied Animation in Southampton (England) for 3 years. Now I have been working as a Motion Graphic designer for a year and a half, which is also a very fulfilling and interesting job.

However I still have a hope that someday I could get into the animation world. That is why I wrote the forum to get some ideas. 3D seems always like a good option, it would more chances in the Motion Graphic world and in the animation world. But then I discovered Animation Mentor, and it made me thin k it would be a great chance to extend my animation Portfolio and really practice the skills getting the best feedback from people who are in the industry.

But this course would mean probably to leave the job I am doing and it is also quite unafordable. And most important, is it going to really going to get me somewhere?

Thanks so much for your help, I really appreciate your comments!

Hello Ines,

I have attended AnimationMentor as a part-time student while keeping a full-time job. I'm not sure why attending AM would mean you'd need to quit your job, unless your time is also spent on other things. It's possible to learn quite a bit in the first few quarters, but attending AM does require a time commitment, 20 or more hours per week is desirable.

If you're serious about character animation as a career, it's worth a look. Regarding funding your education, you could try contacting AM to see if they have any ideas that might help.

Good luck with your education search,

- Tom ;)

Hi Thomas,

Thank you for the help, its great to know I would still have the chance to do the Animation Mentor Course if I would like to, at least timewise!

And now that I know you did the course, I have to ask you some more questions if you dont mind..

-Did they really monitored you personally and continuously? and did their feedback make you really grow in your animation skills?

-Are you working in Animation now or do you have any good perspectives ahead? Did the course help on this?

Thank you very much,

Hello Ines,

>>Did they really monitor you personally and continuously? and did their feedback make you really grow in your animation skills?<<

Yes and yes. Each week, you hand in an animation assignment. Your mentor personally critiques your work and you make improvements to it based on mentor feedback. The mentor records their video critique so you can review their feedback as much as you like. Also, you have a live Q&A session each week, which is like attending a class taught by your mentor. You can talk directly with your mentor via a webcam and communicate with other students via the chat session. Also, there's a video lecture each week and these lectures are invaluable for helping you grow as an animator.

>>Are you working in Animation now or do you have any good perspectives ahead? Did the course help on this?<<

I'm not working in animation now. I'm currently polishing my short film (that I created through the AnimationMentor program) for my demo reel. I have a very good feel for where my skill level is and what is required by the animation industry. After graduation, there's an AM alumni web site to aid in finding career opportunities. Recruiters from the animation industry have access to this site to review student reels.

Hope that helps,

- Tom
