I just saw Cars tonight. I really enjoyed it but I felt it was PIXAR's weakest film yet. But let me just say, PIXAR's worst films are still so far above other studios' best animated movies. So that says a lot about the quality of their films.
The short "One Man Band" was really well done and fun.
Also, Ratatouille looks really good. We'll see how Brad Bird finishes this moive.

I saw it yesterday and still have mixed feelings about it. I'm not sure if I'll be buying the DVD or not. I don't know if I rank this above "A Bug's Life" or right next to it. I like the stuff they did while the credits were rolling.

Pixar presents typical stunning visuals, and even more stunning character animation with seamless special effects.Problem is that the characters themselves arent very complicated as say...Marlin in Finding Nemo with his balancing of loss, love, overbearingness, and unwilingless to let his son and his handicapped lucky fin (metaphoric of his broken family ) accomplish anything on his own. Or Bob Parr from the Incredibles, juxtapose with being a "super" and a "normal" and how betraying his wife and family (running off to that mysterious island to fight robots) roots itself in his midlife crisis.
Lightning Mcqueen and everyone else in carborater springs is too easy to figure out.This being said, I dont think this is a bad movie, moreover its a good movie for the family. however I think its hard to follow nemo and the Incredibles. One Man Band was fun, but the highlight of the entire show was the Ratatouille trailer...that should be good.
I dunno. Where as I have heard it had a thin story, I seen it as mroe subtle than 'transparent'. There was no villain throughout most of the film, there wasn't anyone to rescue, and the only crisis in the film was in Lightning's head and getting back to the tracks. I really enjoyed the entire film. The whole 'slow down and take a look around' feel of the story was really told well, and accented by the absolutely gorgeous art and visuals of the film.
My only complaints were a about 3-4 side characters being pretty terrible, the beginning was a bit alienating, and the ending feeling rushed. I thought the main characters were great, and the pace and entire movie really was something different.
Also, agree on Ratatouille being one of the highlights of the whole thing. That and One Man Band were both great, and really is what Pixar's all about. 2 hours of fantastic animation entertainment - hopefully at a pace of once year again now.

The pacing was very slow. That might fit into the whole "slow down and take a look around" theme but it felt like a 2 1/2 hour movie. I actually looked down at my watch to see how much longer it was. Also the flash back song about the town felt thrown in and out of place. As I told my friend, it's one of their dumber films. By this I mean they seemed to go for the dumb jokes, (ie fart jokes) a lot through the film. To me it didn't seem like it was up to PIXAR's normal cleverness of writing. Over all it didn't feel as subtle as, I think most people have come to expect from PIXAR.
All that being said, it's still an enjoyable film and I think both kids and adults will both like it. For me, my favorite non-PIXAR movie still is no where near as good as my least favorite PIXAR film.
Yeah, the ending credits was really funny.
It looks like with Rat, they are moving from a 18 to a 12 month release date.
