Color Theory

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knew of any websites or books that did a good job of explaining color theory. I realize that no matter what I do, I'm never quite happy with my choice of colors. If any body has any advice or maybe one of those anecdotes where they thought, "I never quite got color theory untill..." it would really help.

Thanks.

Here are some books that I found helpful:

Principles of Color by Faber Birren
Creative Color by Faber Birren
Color Choices: Making Color Sense Out of Color Theory by Stephen Quiller

When I studied Fine Arts in the late sixties I whined and sniveled because we were forced to come up with three original concepts of a color wheel. I thought they were just a forcing us to do lame exercises. But it's one of the most valuable things I still rely on these days. At that time we didn't spend a lot of time going into the psychology of color, but it was touched on. It was trying to actually put the colors together in a way that still made sense in a "wheel" sort of way, showing their interactions and interrealtionships, that really made you think about how they interact. I don't have any of them left in concrete form, they got ditched during a few of the moves I've made during my life. But they are still mentally there...if that makes sense.

And all the time we spent coming up with neutral gray from combining complementary colors, it was a nightmare but it left a lasting impression.
