New Animated Commercial (I must know!!!)

Dear fellow AWN members,

Gah! I just saw the most gorgeous animated commercial EVER! It's airing during the Olympics, here in the US--I beleive it was for United Airlines. The animation was made to look like paper cutouts, and the cinematography was stunning... It had a very short-filmish feel to it.

The basic story was about a man who leaves for work (tucking his kid in bed on his way out). He then rides a giant swan into a big city where he and others become knights of the round table. After defeating a dragon, the man is rewarded, and comes back home to his son, looking like a regular guy again.

Not a word is spoken in the whole commercial, but the storytelling and cinematography was absolutely amazing. It was a shortfilm in its own right. Have any of you seen this commercial? Do you know what studio worked on it? If so please tell me! I must know!!!!!

P.S. If you haven't seen this commercial yet, keep an eye out for it... It will give new meaning to your life, and make you want to do important things and stuff... :D

There were a couple commercials i have seen. somebody showed them in class. i think they are over in england, but it is these 2 kids sitting in the kitchen making something or eating ceral...i cannot remember, there was a couple of them.

quite fantastic. i wish they had a series of it or something. simply amazing. a lot better than the other rotoscoped one they did with the presentation. Though i liked the style of the rotoscoped one i thought it was poorly conceptualised and executed.

Hey Grumbleboy!

That "line" commercial you are referring to, I believe you are referring to the new Hilton hotels comercial. They are nice to watch, the dancing couple being my favorite.

I was just talking to a friend the other day about the latest United Airlines commercial--and yeah, it is beautifully executed; their best yet. The 3d/ flat feeling and the design work is incredible.

Found it!

Ha. It's amazing what a little websearch can do...

I just found the video file, and then some. The commercial is simply called "Dragon," and you can watch it here:

This commercial is majorly awesome, so check it out while its still around! (No, I'm not advertising for UA :) )

[Edit: They even have a "the making of" video. Sweeeet!]

I believe that commercial premiered during the Super Bowl and is part of the Acme Filmworks series of United Airlines commercials that's been playing for the past two years or so.

Yeah, that Dragon comercial is really nice. I forgot the name of the director at the moment, but he is the same guy who did the animation for the credits of "Lemony Snicket..." Really nice work.

Hey, you guys know that one coinstar commercial where all the coins crawl out of the depths of the common household and compile on a table or something to make a shoe?

well my friend linked me to their website today!

There is some cool little stop motion shorts on there. They use some pretty cool materials for these films. What house hold material is playing a role is just as interesting as the film itself.

Thanks for responding everyone :) You've posted some neat links.

Remeniscent of Jan Svankmeyer's stuff. So imaginitive!

I never would of guessed it was stop motion. that is pretty awesome.

We need more awesome commercials on the airwaves...too many are unimaginative garbage!

There's another wonderful series that's been airing lately--I believe it's a Hallmark campaign, but I could be wrong. It consists of a line (in a calligraphy brush) across the screen, and the line bends and expands to form the outline of a couple in various poses. It's a very clean look with smooth animation work. I'm not sure who did it.
