where to study animation?

Hello,
I'm a pupil from germany who looks forward to study animation and VFX. I recently realized, that it could perhapes be like so, that the career opportunities in the US may be much better than here in germany. I'm not sure about this - and so I would be very happy if someone of you could tell me his opinion on this.

And my second question is: does anyone know some good adresses for studying animation & vfx? Is there any place known as "the best" for this profession?

Thank you and greetings from germany

Kariem

Hey guys, listen....I have been accepted into the school of Academy Art University, and I'm going next year January spring 2007.

This decision was ultimately made by myself, it wil give me the edge I need to do what I do and do it well, I'm attending to attain my Bachelors in Fine Art degree and I will major in Motion Picture and Television but I'll also be taking units in Computer Arts New Media.
I'll be staying in the Rodin Dormitory:) the absolute best male dorm, because it has 19 course meal plans for it's residents.....you know I love my food.
I'll complete my degree in 4 years so I'll be away for quite some time, when I return here at Awn I won't be the same kid, hey guys, thanks for the good times, I really appreciate it, and wish me luck:D

Hey animated Ape, I hear you went at AAU as well, do you mind, tell me about your experience there.:)

Thought you were already an exec at Warner Bros and held 6 degrees already???

Look, kid, we just don't care anymore--lord knows I certainly don't.

Hello Kariem,

If you're interested in learning character animation, I think AnimationMentor.com is a great school as I'm a student there myself. For visual effects, I'm not sure, maybe the Gnomon School.

For more info on AM, see this thread:

Good luck in your search,

- Tom ;)

Hey...I thought so too, but any way, if you truly wish to learn animation, USA is the place to be, preferably LA because many of the best schools and companies reside there, there is one school that I think can help.
Try, the Academy of Art institute.

http//www.academyart.edu.com for more info, you can fill out an online application and receive more info.
Good Luck:)

Hi, I guess I have the same question as the title, Where to study animation? I've done some research and I know there are many good schools to study animation such as CalArts and Ringling, but I may not be able to afford these places. Does anybody here have any comments on the animation program at the Kansas City Art Institute, or Colombus College of Art and Design, or Emily Carr?

I may not be able to afford these places

At AnimationMentor.com, it's about $14.3 K for the entire 18 month program. They pack in all of the character animation best practices from animators at Dreamworks, Pixar, Disney, ILM and other feature animation studios. They also offer a student loan program (see www.animationmentor.com > Apply Now > Tuition for more info).

Since I've been attending, my classes have been taught by mentors/animators from Sony Imageworks, Disney, Pixar and DNA Productions. It's really been a great way for me to get exposure to the film studio world that I wouldn't otherwise get and helping me to put together a demo reel worthy of consideration at animation studios.
