Oh Yeah! Cartoons - Take II

OK, I did it. I submitted my own idea to Oh Yeah! Cartoons. I mailed in my submission and they received it yesterday, so now I just have to wait for a response.

They said that they only have a few spaces left to fill and that spaces are going quickly, so my pitchboards are very rough. Not at all clean and polished like SpaceGhost2K's and Jabberwocky's boards. Time just didn't permit it. I just provided enough information to get across the basic idea and tell the story. The rough quality of the boards may hurt my chances, but I would've kicked myself for not even trying.

That's pretty neat Space, and they do offer great feedback.

In my previous post, I was attempting to show that you need to keep a sense of humour when dealing with rejection, so that you can improve, become stronger, and keep going. I hope that's how it came across.

By the way, Sharvonique, how 'bout letting us see some of your material?

OK, here's a page from my story, RAGAMUFFIN. It's a concept that I created just for Oh Yeah, and it's pretty much about the antics of a tomboy named La'Shawn. Remember, I said it was rough. :)

Well now you know what you know, so I am sure you are going back when the cattle call comes again. Good luck to you, SpaceGhost2k, and anyone else who tries to pitch their work.

Moooo-oooo! Oops, I mean thanks! :D

We gave it a pretty good shot and there's always next year. Or later this year or whatever, hehe. Why, if I lived closer to them, I'd have slammed a stack of Malfaryus concepts onto their desks already.
Nickelodeon returned to Germany last year and between shows they run Oh Yeah! Cartoons submissions. Quite frankly, sometimes I'm amazed at what boring stuff they chose to make into shorts. I'm not even speaking as someone who's deeper into animation than the average Joe, it's stuff I wouldn't want to watch even if I was just your average, channel surfin' Joe.
Then again, there are concepts I'd love to see, like Moobeard which looks as though it has pretty solid designs, and Doug TenNaple's Solomon Fix - although I have my doubts about it being made in 3D. TenNaple is a sensational draftsman and painter to my mind and I'm not sure I want to see it all translated into smooth, computer-generated artwork.

Live and learn!

Well, I got the word back that they passed on my idea. :(

They're in the process of finalizing their selections, so I don't even get a chance to rework & resubmit it.
Oh well, c'est la vie!

I did receive some great feedback, which I will put to good use. One thing I learned about this business is that you should spend a few seconds mourning, and then... Wait a minute, I haven't learned anything in this business! :p

Your welcome, Saider E. and thanks Jabberwocky!

You didn't tell them you knew us, didja? Freakin' name droppers, I swear.... :D

Hmmm... I didn't, but maybe I should have. Could've increased my chances. :p

Well, since we didn't get picked up, I wouldn't think so.

You know what I got out of it? I got some great feedback from industry professionals instead of wannabees. And I can call Frederator and someone will take my call and say, "Oh, Hi Ed!"

I get all giggly thinking about it.

Good luck!! Hope that it goes well!!

"check it out, you know it makes sense!" http://miaumau.blogspot.com/

I heard of the Oh Yeah! contest with Nickolodeon. What does that entail exactly? Do you have to have experience, a certain level of caliber to enter?or can just any one join? I would like to try that out one day when i'm ready enough.

What would scooby do?

Good luck!! Hope that it goes well!!

Thanks, Fazendinha!

Oh Yeah! is something created by Frederator, Inc (The Fairly Odd Parents, ChalkZone), but they have a very good relationship with Nickelodeon. You don't really need any experience and it's open to everyone, even children with their parent's consent. Just come up with an original idea that will make a good, humorous short suitable for children, create your pitchboards, then send in your entry. That's moxy, go for it! Don't worry about the boards' drawing quality too much. I enjoyed putting some effort into them because I had the time. In the end, however, it's going to be the fitting ideas behind them which will win you a pitch.
