Anyone here been approached by an Animation "Broker"

well im not sure if this animation 'broker' is an entirely indian creation since we have a great love for middlemen, brokers, fixers in almost all facets of life.

so recently i was approached by two brokers for two different project in the last week. one was for a 45 min home video presentation which i refused upfront as it was 2d and that is something not in our plans.

the other was a flash oriented project a hybrid of some live action mixed with flash animation + e-learning. they expected to do about 150 mins of animation in 12 months. Nothing dramatic, short stuff, over the course of time. This seemed interesting to me but i have very rigid payment structures and plans and that might have scared the bloke off.

personally i found both of the 'brokers' quite sketchy and unreliable, especially since they were approaching it in the style of people selling vegetables.

just a warning to people who might be approached to tread cautiously and a query if anyone has been approached by someone like this as well.

ive gotten the odd one where they want to distribute my content :p

well i know there is one or two guys who pretty much bring all the content in India for outsourcing. problem is they tend to renege and steal and have caused few studios to shut doors. thus my fear of becoming an overseas studio.

That just brings to mind a funny image of two guys with a cart full of animation selling it by the bushel. :p

I have gotten emails from people offerening to post my content on animation sites. I don't think that's quite the same. I'm sure we have people like that here, I just haven't run into them. Thank god! Thanks for the heads up.

I get email messages about once/twice a month, sometimes a phone-call from folks trying this.

I tell them my terms.

I never heard from them again after that.

I'm serious about what I do for a living

They aren't.

One can only wonder why.

Your wrong Ken...

They ARE serious about what they're doing...

Seriously trying hard to find someone to work for nothing!
