The year ahead...

As Larry prompted us to take a look back to everything we've done in 2005, it only seems fitting that we take time to think about what we want to accomplish in 2006. So what are your plans?

Aloha,

Hmm...you forgot something...

Studio Ghibli's "Tales of Earthsea", in July '06!
(Though it probably won't reach American shores until '07 or later, it's worth mentioning anyway, being one of only two traditionally-animated theatrical releases (that I know of) in '06.)

Hopefully become an animation student, and something important:having more time for my friends and private things than in 2005.

Hmm...you forgot something...

Those are just the ones that are on the slate so far.
Hopefully The Fantastic Mr. Fox and the fantastic Mr. Chomet's next feature will make it out next year as well. Regardless, it looks like a pretty good year for animated features: some variety as well as the usual clones, but a larger quantity than in either 2004 or 2005.

Studio Ghibli's "Tales of Earthsea", in July '06!

I used to love Le Guin's work, and, if I were reading it today, I would still love it, I'm sure.
May Goro do it justice.[url=http://www.slate.com/id/2111107/]

What are my plans for this year?

1. Learn Maya. I've been using Flash for quite some time now and I think Maya would be the next step. My love affair with Maya is sort of an "on again, off again" relationship and I've been holding out on this for far too long.

2. Work on my drawing skills! I've been using a Wacom pen for too long, my pencil and paper skills has gone rusty. I can't remember any more how it feels like flipping animation papers between my fingers. I'll start off by buying all the books on anatomy that everybody in this forum recommended to me.

3. Save up for a new desktop computer. I am quite optimistic more work will come my way and I am afraid my portable will not be able to handle it.

Thanks for everybody's advices in this forum. Happy New Year to all!

Blog

1. Spend less time with friends and family--these people suck huge chunks out of my life that I'll never get back ;)

2. Finish the short I've been working on--about 2 mins, a rough storyboard and a soundtrack have been completed--I'll need to do an animatic because the storyboard is very rough and then it's on to the actual animating

3. Get some fiction published--I have two stories ready to go out the door now, they just need cover letters and copies

well my plans really at this point are to get all my shorts done by Feb.
start pursuing business and try and become a quality overseas shop. i have been shying away from work to do my own thing but i need to set up a revenue stream which will allow us to pursue independent projects of our own.
so the goal by the end of the year is to triple the team size to 35 and have atleast one major studio contract or project contract under way.

FInishing my second short film by april 06.

Buy that friking tablet pc... i have to order it to th US. You yankis! (je)

and... well... keep working hard.

My plans for this year, are just to keep on keeping on. Mostly take each challenge one at a time and make the best of any opportunity that comes along. No big dreams here.

Well, the Fly Guy thing isn't happening - at least, not with Frederator. It's a square peg we've been trying to fit into a round hole. The people at Frederator like the concept, but it's too complex to introduce three new characters in a seven minute short.

So... it looks like the next step is to block out the story in episode form, and chase a series. Complete the stript for a pilot and the bones (if not organs) of the rest of the series. Then go after Nick, WB, Fox and Disney.

We've got enough material to push forward on the short, but there's really no point. If it was done, there's not really anything we could do with it except sit on it and wait for a completed movie, then include it as an extra. It's like having "Jak Jak's Attack" and no "Incredibles" movie to go with it. It wouldn't mean anything.

well we made the papers few days ago

its a bit exaggerated though, i cant comment on the budget but the number they threw out is inaccurate.

at present we are quite psyched about it and we are sure we can get this done on time and done well as long as we get our approvals on time.

2005 was good in the sense that I made some great contacts, a lot right here on the AWN forums, and I made progress in promoting myself and my work. For 2006, I am going to promote my work even more and be more focused on completing specific projects. I have some original ideas that have been "in development" for a while, and it's about time that they move to production status.

Well, I'm pretty much locked in to Vancouver Film School's animation program for fall. Between now and then, I'll be drawing-- hopefully finishing the comic-- and starting into some simple animation. Generally, I want to wake my brain up and get into learning mode so that I can be employable as a doodler of some sort by spring of '07.

My plans....for 2006

Hello.

2006 will hopefully bring with it:

1) Another finished animated film...

2) A finished live-action screenplay...

3) I will finally update my website...

4) I will do a show of my artwork at a gallery...

That's all for now...oh yes, get into even better shape...maybe a square or a triangle.

Thanks;)

Larry Lauria, a square. Ha, ha.

Tomorrow is the next pitch for the Fly Guy property.
Other than that, I hope to get to work on a TV production and/or produce pitchable material for my own projects, Legend of Flainne, Moon Pirates and Malfaryus. Or maybe get that Jabberwocky short underway, hummmmm ... I need more storyboards ...

Finish my animated movie Death From Above by March or April 2006.

Create an "anime style" series to enter into a contest coming up in May.

Make more shorts

Hopefully make another movie by the end of the year.

This year my goals have changed a bit. I'm setting aside developing some projects and instead, focusing on:
1) growing as an animator
2) getting better at animating in Maya and
3) moving in to feature animation.

Hopefully we'll all be here a year from now checking everything off that we've listed here.

Aloha,

I figured I would revive this thread because it will give us a little more motivation regarding the things we intend to accomplish.

As for me, I intend to bring quality entertainment programming to television, in the form of animation something that we all can relate to, as we move toward the future.
I also would like to get my body just a little more toned, I kinda notice that my 6 chocoalate bars...:) are beginning to flatten, dang too much sitting and too much writing. Anywho, I would love to learn as much about this industry as possible and hopefully, meet the teen singer from barbados, Rhianna.

well a fruitful week this one. will be catching up with a programming director regarding producing a feature for their channel.
if its a go then this could be a pretty imp development for us as a company.

this is a fun thread.

we concept art and storyboarded a concept as a short and a DJ wants to create a track to play with the short. he is asking us to increase the short from 1.5 to 3 mins.

1. Get back into shape.

2. Start reading and do the exercises in Preston Blair's book, two flash books and one flash cartooning book.

3. Get off my butt and finally make a cartoon that I can submit to NewGrounds.

Well, I plan to, by the end of the year, create and animate a short cartoon. Only about five minutes in length and in the traditional style. But of course the first goal is to do a series of pencil tests with some characters that I still need to create. Baby steps..
Oh yea, loose weight too. :D
