another motion studies project

Hey guys! I have another motion studies project to show. The compression messed up the color, so I'm not too happy about that. If I had more time I would have liked to animate the ticketman fully rather than using "cut-out". I would have had to use 100% cut out but my teacher said we can use whatever 2d method we want as long as we use After Effects in the process. I also would have liked to have more time on each o the cuts but as I said, we only had 15 seconds. Mine is actually 16.21 seconds on the down low, lol. I suck at inking by the way!

Anyway, we had to do a 15 second animation regarding the film festival. My original idea was WAY too long. It involved my alias dressing up as various Don Bluth character to get into the theater. My teacher suggested I do something dealing with trouble getting a ticket. It's funny because I felt just like the guy at the end when I opened my ticket pack and didn't see one for the Don Bluth event. XD

wouldnt play in my browser had to download it for it to work (just a warning to people)

It was pretty good animation. pretty smooth. It was kind of confusing with the same arm coming up those 3 times.

Hey blinkmetoys! Thnx for the compliment! I dont know why it wont play in your browser. Which one are you using?

The arm part was just to show the demand for tickets. If I had more time I would have made each one different and probably have more of them.

I am using Safari which in most all cases can play quicktime movies (they are both mac products afterall).

but that is what i figured. demand for tickets and stuff. woulda been cool to have different ones though.

The problem is not his browser but the file sizes. I had to go to Schlotzsky's Deli to use their highspeed connection and it still took about two minutes. You might wont to look into streaming. :D

How do I do streaming video? Sorry about the size, I compressed it but it's still quite large.:o

If your software does not give you more options, then you are going to have to wait untill you get better software. When I export I am given a button that has a list of file types to choose from. Check of your export menu.

Thanks Wontobe, I'll have a look.

I played fine for me. You might have to up-grade to the latest QT player?

Your short looked good Mightymew. The only real problem that I think you need to watch was the arc on Bartok's head. When his head goes down for the antic. His head moves down and right a couple of frames then it goes almost straight down, then almost straight up a couple of frames then up and too the right again. If you plot the center of the head's path in a "U" shape it'll work much better.

On Fival (sp?) I see you are going for some squash and strech in his head as he antics down, but it's a little off. He moves down the most in the second drawing, but his head goes right into the squash. His head should be stretched in this pose then go to a normal or slightly squashed over the next couple of drawings. You have a similar problem when he goes back up.

The last guy is nicely done. I really like looks slightly to screen left, then left again as the guy comes in. It breaks up the timing nicely instead of having just one big head turn all at once.

Good work. Your animation has come a long way from your earlier work. You work is going skyrocket once you start taking real character animation classes. Will that be next semester? Keep it up Mighty.

thanks!

Thanks AnimatedApe! I agree with everything you said. It's amusing to see how the animation gets better with each character, lol. I think the last guy is the best too. I noticed the problem with Bartok's head and his ears after animating him and planned to go back and fix it if I had time. Needless to say I didn't have the time. That was the most intense project I've ever done, lol.

Yeah, I start animation 1 with Larry next quarter. I can't wait! :D

Very nice! Definately above the cut of what most people are doing for the cut-out project in motion studies (including mine from last spring, when we did a Valentine's day theme: ANIM130_Proj3_mov_mp4.mov ) Nice attention to anticipation and overlapping action.

I'm in Lacoste with Larry L. right now and he is excited about moving back to Animation 1 next quarter where he feels he can do more good (as opposed to Portfolio, when it's kinda late to help people with fundamental problems.) He's definately the best choice with whom to take the class, with Phil Young running a close second. His film looks great, by the way, hopefully he'll show it in class sometime! Maybe he'll have the "director's cut" done by then :) I've got Phil myself next quarter for 2D character animation, really looking forward to it and gonna try to really pour myself into it...

Thanks jprowland! Larry was my first choice for animation 1. The fact that I've talked to him here and gotten help from him on my own projects from last year put him above Phil for next quarter. I do plan on taking a class with Phil though. I hear both of them are great teachers. :D As for Larry's film, I hope he shows it in class too! I know it'll be awsome!

no, twas an error. The quicktime logo grayed out and a white question mark was put over it.
