Seeking Agent

I haven't seen any thread that discusses ways to get work shown to reputable sources, such as agents and production companies. Does anyone have any suggestions on submitting pitch books for tv projects?

Thanks

like spaceghost said get an Attorney and agent will be a hardsell when you are just starting out.
also personally i know that some attorneys will easily submit your concepts and pitches to studios for a minor fee. so you can atleast get started where this is a hurdle.

Try checking out "The Gotham Group." They deal mainly with animation and they work on comission taking something like 10 - 20% but I'm not exactly sure.

...we must all face a choice, between what is right... and what is easy."

Thanks guys. Any suggestions on Law Firms that specialize in this that you can recommend, esp in NY?

I'm looking into The Gotham Group too, thx

PM or email spaceghost, i know he was talking to an entertainment lawyer who visits the board. other than that just use google and find the nearest one to you if you wish. personally there should be plenty of lawyers out there. you need to figure out what you need him/her for. if its just for submissions any lawyer will do. if you want someone for proper consulting youll need to figure out a budget first.
also. can you please share information you do find about the gotham group.

I'll share the info I get re: The Gotham Group. It isn't the GothamPR link that Skinny sent out. Here is a bit of info on the company. I'm investigating further, will share the 411 here.

Recognized as the powerhouse agency in the animation and family entertainment industry, The Gotham Group boasts a roster of over 250 top directors, writers, producers, illustrators, artists and content creators. Included among its client roster are: Paul Germain & Joe Ansolabehere, co-creators of "Rugrats" (Nickelodeon) and executive producers of "Recess" (ABC); Doug TenNapel, who recently closed a deal with Regency Pictures for a film based on his graphic novel, "Creature Tech," and is a consulting producer on ABC's "Push Nevada" and creator of "Earthworm Jim"; Seth Kearsley, director of the Adam Sandler animated film "Eight Crazy Nights"; Silvia Cardenas, executive producer of "Brothers Garcia" (Nickelodeon); Spike Decker, "Spike & Mike Sick & Twisted Film Festival of Animation"; Duane Capizzi, co-executive producer of "Jackie Chan Adventures"; Butch Harman & Steve Marmel, "The Fairly OddParents" and "Danny Phantom," both on Nickelodeon; and author David Wiesner, whose "3 Pigs" is set up as a Disney feature and "Sector 7" as a Nickelodeon feature.

cool. is there a link?

OK, the word on The Gotham Group is they do not take material unless it is through an agent, lawyer they know, etc.

No website.

Entertainment Attorney Willing To Help

Hey Folks:

My name is Andy Herz. I'm based in Brooklyn and I'm the entertainment atty that Space Ghost has been talking to. I'm always willing to help folks submit their projects, as well as to help hone the projects so you have the best possible shot. I'm a writer as well (our projects are up at www.buzzsawfilms.info), so I'm all too familiar with the many hoops you/we'll be jumping through.

My rates are fairly affordable - as far as sharks go - and I always try to cut a fair deal for up and coming creative folks. I operate solo; handle just 15-20 clients at a time, so it's not one of those call today; hear back in two weeks kind of thing. Website for my law offices is at www.andyherz.com (nothing special there; about as exciting as lawyers are able to get).

And since I am developing my own animated projects, I'm often willing to discuss barter of legal services in exchange for creative services, particularly animated trailers, storyboarding or visual frames.

Feel free to email me privately or call at 718-856-3031. Operators standing by....

Just a note about this thread that I started. We have made a media kit and put our creative ideas down on paper. I suggest you do the same.

i think that is a given.

Never, EVER put creative ideas down on paper.

Always use charades.

how will u pitch without artwork?

...pretty sure SpaceGhost2K was being sarcastic ;)

whoosh.
thats the sound of something goin over my head ;)

There's a small handful of agencies and management companies in LA that specialize in animation, including the Gotham Group, as previously mentioned. I have contacts, but PM me for some recommendations, I don't want to flood their switchboards.

Also, NEVER EVER pay anyone up front to represent your work... Agencies and managers work on a commission basis, either 10-15% of the money you make. Plus, they are skilled at negotiating those pesky contracts. And agents and managers are there to protect your creative interests as well. They handle paperwork and can help verify your work if you ever get into a situation where a studio rips off your idea.

tough room. My intention was to put my two cents in regarding what you show agents/lawyers/production companies/networks etc etc. The best thing to do is to make it as complete as possible through something like a media kit, with stories, art, character descriptions, etc.

:p

any more thoughts on this...been ages.
