some good ol' fashioned animation

howdy, here is a pencil test for an animation i have been working on lately. he supposed to be drooling but i haven't added that yet, and the ending isn't quite finished. i think the anticipation to the last pose looks kinda funky or something, or i think i need to change the final pose. he's not going to just go into a static pose at then end, i just havent figured out how im going to show him ring out his tounge.

oh, and he's about to get an ice cream, so he's all excited and jumping around. it was going to be for my short, but i have abondoned it. i just wanted to animate this scene and start putting together a demo reel of animations.

anyways, heres the link:
hooray for animation

any comments and/or critiques would be greatly appreciated. thanks a lot and i hope you all like it.

*edit* i changed the link to that putfile.com site, instead of my deviantart.

it says im forbidden.

i commented :D

thanks for the comments thunderrobot.

Beautiful

I love it. The sqash and stretch is done very very well. And your use of anticipation is excellent.

Did you shoot that on ones?

thanks Ontaious, i'm glad you liked it. yea i like to use a lot of squash and stretch in my animation. pretty much the whole thing is one 2's, except for a few frames here and there, mostly where there is a smear drawing.

its pretty fluid.

i like it.

thanks blinkmetoys. i'm glad you liked it.

so how many frmaes was that?

did you re-use any of them?

umm.. it was about 5 seconds long, and most of it was on 2's... so im guessing it was about 60-70 drawings, and none of them were used more than once. hopefully i get time this week to finish it up and then clean it up and color it.

Nice exercise!! That was fun!

Nice animation !!

just wondering how long does it normally take you to color something like this?

heh i'm guessin it would take the same amount of time to colour it as it would to animate it few...like animating the same thing twice hehe.

excellent stuff!

thanks everyone for your comments!

yea it does take me quite a while to clean up and color somehting like this. ive only done it once before, so i dont really remember how long it took. but i reckon that it would take about the same time to color it as it did to animate it. with most of the time used for tracing a clean drawing onto a new peice of paper. then scanning is pretty quick, and i guess coloring it on the comp takes a quite a bit of time too.

but alas, i havent found any time to start of any of that yet! damn, ive got to get started.

so once you make a drawing you trace it on a new paper for coloring?

i just draw a frame, ink it,erase it, and then scan it in for coloring. Is this a wrong process.

sounds about right to me. tracing on fresh paper before scanning would cut down on little specks. you might not see 'em but the scanner will. i usually just select and copy all my lines. then just completely whitewash the whole thing. And simply paste my lines back.

I really wish i could see this but quicktime doesn't want to work for me.

Oh and, Brien, i love the avatar pic. always makes me want to watch ghostbusters.
