opinions on toon boom studio?

my views might be a little bias because i'm in love with flash, but i was never really that impressed with toonboom. The camera controls are cool and everything, and I like the layout of the timeline, but I didn't like how jagged the lines looked. and pretty much everything you can do in toonboom, you can do in flash, well except for the automated color thing. another thing is that i couldn't import images for my bg's, they all had to be made in toonboom with that same jagged line quality. I don't know, maybe it was the version I was using, or maybe I just didn't give it enough of a chance.

Do a Toonboom search of this forum. If you do not get enough responces to your post, I know that there a few threads already about toonboom. I am still think it over, to Toonboom or not ToonBoom.

I bought Toonboom and might be able to give you a little help. I think that if you already have Flash and are comfortable with Flash, then there is no need for Toonboom. But if you don't own Flash, and animation is your main concern, than you should probably seriously consider Toonboom. I just find it more intuitive with how my mind works.

First, I think I should mention that I bought Toonboom with the intention of scanning in everything I do. I was mainly concerned compositing and it was a lot cheaper than After Effects.

I like it mostly because of its batch importing and camera moves. Plus it has a lip synch tool already built in which I don't think Flash does. Now, you could do all of your camera moves in Flash, but Toonboom actually gives you a 3D work space. This way, instead of enlarging and shrinking objects to give the illusion of zooming in, in Toonboom you just set up the set pieces and move an actual camera.

This first one was a test animation i did a long time ago. Now I can't remember what I scanned it at because I have actually gotten thinner lines on everything i have done since then.

This next one is the same animation with the camera tipping and flying past the sack.

If I had one problem with Toonboom, it would be that for some reason they haven't been able to fix a problem with the Wacom's mouse. The pen works perfectly, but the mouse jumps and is off by an inch. Its the weirdest thing.

hope that helps.

if you do traditional or stop motion there is no need to pay $300 for toon boom when you can get money jam for free.

Monkey jam has a lip sych tool and batch import. Its also very easy to use in my mind 10 times better than toonboom.

It's free so try it out at this site. http://search.aol.com/aolcom/redir?src=websearch&requestId=112a069118928609&clickedItemRank=1&userQuery=monkeyjam&clickedItemURN=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.giantscreamingrobotmonkeys.com%2Fmonkeyjam%2F&title=--+MonkeyJam+-+free+digital+pencil+test+software+- and if you dont like it you can get a demo of tooonboom here http://search.aol.com/aolcom/redir?src=websearch&requestId=3d81b609042ff8ef&clickedItemRank=1&userQuery=toonboom&clickedItemURN=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.toonboom.com%2F&title=Toonboom The other and better solution for an animator is mirage. It looks like a very nice picece of software depending on what you want it for.Its kinda stupid to get unless you do digital animation with a tablet but toon boom is the same thing so i think this is just all sround better software. http://search.aol.com/aolcom/redir?src=websearch&requestId=cd91db420e322149&clickedItemRank=3&userQuery=mirage+animation&clickedItemURN=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bauhaussoftware.com%2Fproducts_mirage_solutions_2D.php&title=Bauhaus+Software+2D+Solutions
