Monthly 2D animation competition is here!

I know a lot of you have been dying for a 2d animation competition and I have finally started one! There is an audio clip to download to animate to and prizes as well. The competition is open to both flash and paper/pencil animators. For those of you who just want to animate and not worry about designing your own characters, we have pre-made characters you can purchase as well as backgrounds and props.

Go visit the Animators Clubhouse and get started. The competition ends on Aug 31st!

Also, feel free to post in the brand new forums over there. It should turn out to be a great place to review and critique animations for the competition!

Nice demo!

Man I am digging the character packs (the alien is mY fav) but the demo kicks butt and gives a very clear idea of the possibilities for their use.
Great stuff Blue! I will try very hard to get something to show for the contest, sounds like fun.
Again very nice stuff:)

Thanks swankaman, I was hoping that demo would clearly describe and show what a character pack is.

Glad you like the alien! We will have a Pirate (w/parrot) and Frankenstein up soon too!

Ding-dang!

Your packs are a fabulous concept, indeed!

(The demo reel was great, too!)

Getting your name out there in this way is sure to bring about great things!

Good show!

Splatman :D

thanks for the vote of confidence splats, I really need it right now. I know that these character packs are a great idea, but now that they are actually up and available, I feel very nervous. Wondering what the world thinks!

Hey, how come more of you aren't interested in this competition? There was so much discussion months ago about everybody wanting a competition to compete in! You don't have to use a character pack to compete in this competition, they are just there for those who need/want them.

Just because no one's posting doesn't necessarily mean that no one's interested. As for myself, I'm not into the structured animated contests; I prefer ones that just say "build a piece under 3 minutes" or something a bit more open. But that's just me. I also think the character packs are a great idea, but I don't honestly ever see myself using them (because I try to make my own). I think they'd be great for absolute beginners, though (and I'm still struggling to break out of the "beginner" category :D ). The samples you put up of the butler are great, also. In the end, I'll be curious to see what kind of audience they attract.

That said, I think your site is great, and it's great to see someone putting in some good work for animation. You're obviously passionate about it. Please keep it up! :D

Yes, the character packs are definitely for those who don't have great animation skills or who are designers and understand flash and need a character for a project. Obviously, those who frequent the AWN forums are not our target audience, but I am just hoping that the competition can be a fun outlet for anyone regardless of what level of animation experience to have a structured project to work on improving their skills.

Hey bluehickey

I was very interested in your 2d animation contest and I will enter it even though my flash skills aren't great. the script is very good, I will do my best to make a good flash

Hey Gabe, I'm glad to hear that you like the sound clip. If I had time I would animate something for fun with it as well. I think the voice artist did a great job!

Ya bluehickey

yes i defintly agree. Whoever did that did a really good job, he really did a good job of making the clown sound apprehensive. I could picture exactly how that scene would look

awesome stuff! very good sound file to work with too!

i might give this a go if i get time. (working on short film at moment aswell)

For those of you who are interested, we have posted a FREE character pack head that you can download and play around with to get an idea of how the packs are put together and how you can animate easily with the mouth comp system:

Hello Blue

Hello.

I've been trying for years to get an animation contest together and have announced it (falsely) several times.

Maybe someday it will happen....oh well.

I don't understand the packs- I guess they are for non animators...or it has something to do with Flash.

Whatever works is great!

Thanks.

Larry,

The character packs are ideal for students who are learning flash in school and can just begin animating without having to worry about making their own characters. It's also helpful because they don't have to draw, scan in and then convert their art, or try to draw with a mouse, which is never a fun experience. Anyone who wants to explore creating their own cartoons in flash but feel they don't have the adequate art skills can get going with the packs.
