Happy 94th Birthday, Joe Barbera !

A Happy 94th Birthday Joe !

Some decades ago, when even major studios were seriousy thinking of dumping animation to concentrate on theme parks and merchandising-- flying in the face of Walt's dictum (paraphrased): "Animation built it all; it all started with a mouse"; Bill and Joe and a few other visionary TV cognicenti kept world animation alive and kicking.

In the 1990's I had the good fortune to thank you personally, Joe for this herculean task; and now again in your '90's, on behalf of all we animators: THANK YOU.

And many more Happy Birthdays to you.

Respectfully yours,

Norm Drew

That's great!

Regardless of one's opinion of the limited animation style Hanna Barbera pioneered for TV in the late 50's, it's fair to say that their studio kept the artform of animation alive for decades until it could be "revived" by Disney and others in the 80's. Many animation veterans were able to keep working professionally long after WB, Disney, and others eliminated or severely cut back on their staffs by landing a gig at Hanna Barbera.

It's also worth keeping in mind that with their Tom and Jerry cartoons for MGM, Hanna and Barbera produced some of the best full animation of all time.

Happy Birthday, Joe - thanks for all you've done for this artform we love!

Have a Yabba-Dabba-Doo day, Mr. Barbera.:)
