Back Then!!

Hello all,
I was just wondering if anybody know the types of machines (computer brands), software, operating systems etc; studios used on there 2D stuff in the time period 1994-2001.
Studios like:
Warner brothers
Disney
Aardman Animation
MGM
Fox
Pixar

Retas

I found out that retas was one of the 2D animation software used by studios. It is very expensive though.

Wow....whatta mind reader, no seriously....

I was wondering that myself. I mean they had finally pulled off the tradtional cel look w/ whatever programs they used. I too wish to purshase that same technology for my own personal studio, anyone that could help our further knowlege on the topic would help considerablly, as I am looking to not only know but possibly buy a copy.

I'm no animation historian, but I'm assuming most studios back then used a product called "slave labor" :D Seriously though, I think the evolution of computerized 2D went from hand animating then digital coloring for most of the time period you are referring to, then recently it has been all "in the box" type stuff using toon boom, etc. If there was a program they all used back in the day it was probably ridiculously expensive and commercial, and you can get something today that has more features and is much cheaper. Before investing tons of money into a program I think you should see if you really like to do 2D first, so just start drawing on some paper, shoot it digitally, and crunch it together in quicktime pro, which is like 30 bucks. if you have a windows or linux box play with www.plasticanimationpaper.dk.

Lethergic,
Do you have an Idea of the type of computer systems they used did they put together there own machines?
If so what were the specs; memory, graphics card operating system etc?
Anybody can answer this. Thanks guys.
