Newest Flash Piece

Here's my lastest Flash Animation. Keep in mind, I just started fleshing this out today. It's still pretty basic (and is only the first portion of the 'story') but I wanted to start getting some crits early so I can avoid potential problems right off the bat.

So, as always, all c and c's welcome. :D I will continue to update it as I progress.

Cute!

Reminds me of the the male dog in "The Lady and The Tramp".

Cavy,

I love asking people this.
Graphics tablet or paper, pencil and scanner to create your masterpieces?

pcdoctor:

I prefer to animate my stuff out by hand and then scan and clean it up in Flash, but I didn't do that this time. I did a couple quick sketches by hand, scanned them, and cleaned them up in Flash. From there on, I've done the drawing/animating with a computer mouse. I wish I had a Wacom--it sure would make things easier!

Okay, I got around to doing some more work on it. It's still pretty rough and has a way to go. I have some music now though. :D

Edit: Well, it's too big to upload so I have to shrink it some. I'll get it up tomorrow.

Hey great stuff, nice subtle acting! And nice clean up and colors as well!

Did you rotoscope Maggie Joy Crazy Kisser Campbell, my little lab puppygirl, for this? There she is, just waiting for someone to throw the ball, sighing when nothing happens!

Very cool...

bluehickey,

I saw your reviews for your cartoons on www.newgrounds.com

Boy, did somebody steal your work and post it?

I guess that's a complement because who would steal a cartoon that's junk.

I read a lot of the reviews.

I'd love to see you create a Darth Vader cartoon too.

Thank you all!!

I resized the file. I think next time I'll only take out the music and not publish at such a low quality to keep the filesize smaller. :D I haven't timed out the second puppy's run yet, so keep that in mind.

I'm back again with some more work done.

I still have no idea how to shrink the file size enough to include the music as well. Eventually I'll have some SFX to go with it though.

What sort of sound file do you want to go with it?

Pat Hacker, Visit Scooter's World.

The background colors (including bright cyan floor) are too stark. They overshadow the players.
Also, I don't care for the background perspective. Make the background either less interesting or more interesting.

Otherwise, great work as always, Cavy.

what frame rate are you at right now cause its looking like 12 posibly less?

this is awsome i must say great work

Hi Cavy, great work so far. I can't wait to see it when you're finished. I like the animation so far. It's alittle rough, but I can see you are thinking about the animation principles as you go, like antics before you move. I think it would read a bit better if you squash the ball and his paw when he steps on the ball. Not much just a tad. Also, it looks like his tail is to low and comes out the side of his butt instead of being a continueation of his spine. I'd move it up so the bottom is just above where his shin and paw meet. Also, it does look like you are working at 12 fps. Is could you post an swf running at 24 fps? I think you motion will read better at this speed.

Keep up the good work, I'm glad I didn't scare you off the last time. :D

Aloha,
the Ape

...we must all face a choice, between what is right... and what is easy."

Oh, just remembered.

Head turn. They look alittle wonky. If his head moved down as he turned instead of up, it would work better. With gravity, most animals, and humans, heads tend to dip when they turn. Unless there is a reason for the head to go up, like him putting his mussle on a table or lap. I think thats it.

Thanks for the critiques everyone.

I will see what I can do about the background. I'm not really too good at backgrounds but will work something out.

I'm pretty sure the frame rate is 12 fps. Yes, I will publish a version at 24 fps for you. http://www.dancingcavy.com/Temp/Puppy.swf

It is times like this I WISH I had a Wacom tablet. Some things are just much easier to do by drawing than with a mouse. :(

I did squash the ball some when his paw comes down on it but apparently not enough.

As always, I appreciate the comments and will get some more work done on this piece soon.
