Who is going to the San Diego Comic Con?

Wish I could have posted this before we got hacked...but I was wondering who was going to the San Diego Comic Con (July 22-25). We all should get together...would love to see some real faces.:)

I'll be going. I'm hoping my short animated film will be shown at their independent film festival. I should hear sometime this week.

I probably can't make it to any organized gatherings, but if you or anyone else will be at a booth I'll stop by and say hi. :)

I'm gonna be there too. Well if I ever get off my fat behind and register. :D I plan on just going for the spectacle of it all.

I might be attending to promote the new comic book I worked on. The owner's of the book got a booth on the main floor. I hope to be there, it sounds exciting! Have any of you guys been to one before? What is it like?

This will be my 6th straight year going.

It's AWESOME!!!!

This will be my 4th straight year going. When youre down there and if you're hungry, I strongly recommend The Gaslamp Strip Club. Yes, it sounds like a place to get a lap dance, but it's actually a grill-your-own-steak place (with tasteful paitings of nude women on the walls;) ). It's a really cool place with awesome atmosphere--my boyfriend and I go there every single year.

Cyber, can you get a lap dance there while grilling your own steak? Sorry, I had to ask. :D

har har...no but the waitresses are dressed in fishnet stockings and stuff. Kind of like a classy, retro Hooters...only you grill your own stuff.

...I also recommend the Ghirardelli Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop...right up the street from the steak place. Their sundaes are the friggin' bomb.:)

Hooorayyy!!!!!!

My short film just got accepted for Comic-Con's Independent Film Festival. It's currently scheduled to play on Friday the 23rd at 5:00 pm in Room 4 (upper level of the convention center).

This may be it's only public showing, since I haven't submitted it to any other festivals. You will also get to see it projected, which is a much different experience than seeing the low quality version that's online. I'll also be present to answer any questions about the film.

Please come by and check it out if you can. It would also be cool to meet you guys in person. Hope to see you there.

*writing down the time*

What's the title of the film, man? Congrats! I'm there!:D

I'm going to go this year. This will be my first time. Did someone say we have to register? I'm not doing a booth or anything, just going to wander. Those of you who have gone before, please tell me if I need to do more than just show up and enter the door.

Cybercyst- Thanks. The title is "Meanwhile...". I'm not sure if the date and time are in stone. So I will post another anouncement when it gets close to the convention. Hope to see you there.

Bluehickey- You can buy a ticket at the door, but it can be expensive plus you'll have to wait in a really long line. Go to comic-con.org and find their professional registration form. IF you qualify (which you probably do) then send in the form and you get a free 5 day pass plus 1 guest. Hurry before the deadline.

Blue-- Even if you just plan on walking around (same here)...Definitely register ahead of time...so when you get there, you don't have to wait in the loooong line to get a ticket (Saturday is their most popular day because that's when the most celebrities come, but I recommend buying the 4-day pass and sticking around from Thursday to Saturday, and then leave Sunday morning). All you will have to do is go pick up your name badge at the Pre-Registration booths (organized under last names; A-D, E-H, etc.). It's much more convenient to register ahead of time.

Here is the registration form. Just mail/fax it in and you will be all set. I think you will get a confirmation in the mail, but other than that all you have to do is pick up your pre-registration badge at the convention.:)

thanks for the info guys! I really appreciate it!

Colby: Do you know where the professional registration form is located on the site? I can't seem to find it.

Whoo hoo! Just sent off my registration. I'll see you all down there. Look for the 800 pound Ape. :) Blue, when I went last year, a bunch of us registered as Pros down there and it was fast. We just went upstairs in the middle of the convention center and registered. It took about 10 to 15 minutes.

Bluehickey- The pro form doesn't seem to be on their website. Try requesting one through e-mail. Good luck. Comic-Con is well worth the effort.

-Colby

I will request one via email.

Here is a question though, what qualifications do you need to have in order to be a "pro"? Is it full time employment at a company related to the industry?

Bluehickey- You don't need a full time position. You just have to write down 3 of the projects and companies you've worked for recently. The work has to be related to comics, animation, sc-fi, etc. You shouldn't have a problem.

Did you submit anything for the Star Wars Fan Film Contest?

-Colby

Colby,

I emailed the comic-con website and within minutes they emailed me the pro registration form. I filled it out and faxed it back since the deadline is tomorrow. Thanks so much for telling me about that. I just saved $60!

Yes, I entered a brand new star wars cartoon for fan film contest. I think I will start a new thread to talk more about it in order not to hijack this thread!
