Tired, depressed, sick, cold, nauseous, tense, exhausted... In 2014, cartoonist, graphic novelist and illustrator Maaike Hartjes suffered a burnout.

Hello!

Tired, depressed, sick, cold, nauseous, tense, exhausted... In 2014, cartoonist, graphic novelist and illustrator Maaike Hartjes suffered a burnout.

For a long time, she couldn't really do much of anything, she couldn't work, she couldn't go to appointments, she couldn't even look up train times; just the thought of it was too much.

All she could do was keep a diary, in the form of drawings and collages. For half a year she described her daily activities, feelings and reflections.

In 2018, this diary was published as a graphic novel by Nijgh & Van Ditmar, under the title 'Burn-out Diary'.

Many people recognized themselves in Maaike's story, including animation director Dario van Vree.

He had suffered a burnout too, and during that period he had experienced how difficult it was to accept the situation and be open about his burnout. He realized that Maaike's book presented an opportunity to turn her story into an animated film and thus to encourage a broader conversation about burnout and perfectionism.

Since then, for some 5 years now, Studio Pupil has been hard at work on the 30-minute film adaptation of Maaike's book: I'm perfectly fine. In this animated film we depict what it feels like to struggle with perfectionism and burnout, in a light-hearted yet profound way.

With the support of the Netherlands Film Fund, Amsterdam Fund for the Arts and our Belgian partners, we have been able to realize a large part of the film. But making an animated film is a lot of work, and to be able to finish the film, we are still a bit short.

That's why we want to ask you: would you please help us to finish this film? We have started a crowdfunding campaign on Voordekunst.nl, where you can read more about the project, as well as see which rewards we have to offer you in return, if you make a donation.

So, donate now, and help us make this movie *perfect*... no wait, *good enough*!
