Elton John’s New “Rocket Man”

First music video for the 1972 classic is based on Iranian filmmaker Majid Adin's real-life refugee story

The winners of Elton John and Bernie Taupin’s The Cut competition were announced today and their videos released for “Tiny Dancer,” “Bennie and the Jets,” and (most importantly) an animated version of “Rocket Man.”

Iranian filmmaker Majid Adin answered the brief for “Rocket Man” with his own story of scrambling across Europe as a refugee during the 2015 crisis, before finding asylum in the UK, “giving a new perspective to the lyrics and themes of travel and loneliness.

“The rocket represents movement – it is a boat, a lorry, a train. And Mars is London, a new city, a new world.”

The final animation was created at Blinkink in London, with Adin teaming with director Stephen McNally.
