Wieden & Kennedys Honda COG, a unique 120-second TV commercial, has walked off with this years Grand Clio for TV at this years International Clio Festival, held from May 15 - 18, 2004. In addition, DDB Chicago has, again, been named Clios Agency of the Year, and DDB Worldwide, Agency Network of the Year for the fourth year in a row.

BAFTA announced the winners of its Craft Awards on May 16, 2004 at a ceremony hosted by Alistair McGowan at the Dorchester. The TV documentary RESTORATION won the BAFTA for Graphic Design while Framestore took home the Visual Effects BAFTA for its work on SEA MONSTERS A WALKING WITH DINOSAURS TRILOGY.
The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) has announced the winners of the 2004 Editors' Choice Awards, an extension of its annual NAB Awards for Innovation in Media (AIM) program. The winners are Apple's Motion in the Content Creation category, Fast Forward Video's Covert DVR in the Content Management grouping, and VBrick Systems, Inc.'s EtherneTV within the Content Delivery class.
TUTENSTEIN and LITTLE BILL were the big animation winners at the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences' 31st Annual Creative Arts Daytime Emmy Awards, presented during simultaneous ceremonies held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York and the Grand Ballroom at Hollywood and Highland in Los Angeles, May 15, 2004. LITTLE BILL from Nickelodeon won for Outstanding Children's Animated Program while TUTENSTEIN from PorchLight Ent., airing on the Discovery Kids slot on NBC, won for Outstanding Special Class Animated Program.
The 2004 edition of the 3D Awards names 'Finding Nemo' the best 3D animated feature film; 'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King' is crowned with the prize for best feature film visual effects.
THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING was the big winner at the 30th annual Saturn Awards, garnering eight statuettes at the May 5, 2004 ceremonies held at the Universal Sheraton in Los Angeles. KING reigned in awards for best fantasy film, best actor (Elijah Wood), best supporting actor (Sean Astin), best director (Peter Jackson), best writing (Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens) and best music (Howard Shore), among others.
Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has selected 29 students from 17 colleges and universities as finalists in its 31st annual Student Academy Awards competition. A third of the finalists will compete in the Animation category. Gold, silver and bronze medals, along with accompanying cash prizes of $5000, $3000 and $2000, may be awarded in each of the four categories. Winning filmmakers will participate in a week of industry-related and social activities, culminating in the presentation ceremony on June 13, 2004.

Pete Koelsch has won the Simplistic Pictures Animation Award for his student film, TEACHING BABY ANIMAY. The Simplistic Pictures Animation Award is an annual award granted to the student who submits the most outstanding animated film to The Cleveland Institute of Art's annual E.M.I.T Film Festival.
ACM SIGGRAPH announced the Computer Animation Festival's Best Animated Short and Jury Honors winners for SIGGRAPH 2004, to be held Aug. 8-12 in Los Angeles, California. The Computer Animation Festival jury selected BIRTHDAY BOY (by Sejong Park of the Australian Film Television and Radio School) as Best Animated Short and RYAN (by Chris Landreth) for Jury Honors. Chris Bregler, New York University, is the SIGGRAPH 2004 Computer Animation Festival Chair.
Discreet and Mobile Game partners announced the 14 finalists in the first international 3D Mobile Game Gaming Contest.
Cartoons on the Bay, the 8th festival of television animation organized by Rai Trade, culminated in Positano, Italy with the Pulcinella Awards on April 25, 2004. Canada led the awards with three.

da Vinci Systems named the winners of the inaugural Master Colorist Awards competition, comprised of four categories, including TV and long form, theatrical release, commercial and music video reels. The awards recognize colorists' innovative and skillful use of da Vinci's film enhancement and restoration tools.
The Harvey Awards, the top honor in comics, has announced this year's nominees. The big news for animation fans is the nomination of Gene Deitch's CAT ON A HOT THIN GROOVE for Best Domestic Reprint Project. This year's ceremony will take place at the new Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art on June 26, 2004 as part of the Third Annual MoCCA Art Festival.

Attendees at the NAB2004 voted for the technological innovations that best addressed current and upcoming issues in the electronic media industry by boosting efficiency, increasing user flexibility and creativity, and lowering cost.
In what amounts to be no less a popularity contest than voting for high school homecoming queen, the MTV Movie Award nominations for 2004 have been announced. However, the awards do highlight the coolest kids on the block vfx blockbusters with PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL topping the list of nomination with six. X2: X-MEN UNITED came in second with four nods. In animation nominations, FINDING NEMO reeled in two nods for best movie and best comedic performance for Ellen DeGeneres.
The Cannes Film Festival, which runs May 12-23, 2004, has announced it lineup of films, which includes two animated features. Both SHREK 2 and INNOCENCE: GHOST IN THE SHELL II have been selected for the official competition. The original SHREK also played at Cannes. This news must have DreamWorks execs partying SHREK 2 was produced by the company and the company's specialty label Go Fish Pictures will be releasing INNOCENCE in the U.S.
The 2nd Annual International Animated Film Festival "BIMINI," which took place April 1-4, 2004 in the city of Riga, Latvia, bestowed its top prize on LEGEND OF THE ORIGIN OF CRAWFISH by Valentin Olshvang.
RUGRATS composer and artist Mark Mothersbaugh will receive the 2004 Richard Kirk Award for Outstanding Career Achievement at the BMI Film & TV Awards to be held May 12, 2004 at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills. The black-tie event will be hosted by BMI president/ceo Frances W. Preston and will honor the composers of the past year's top-grossing films and the top-rated primetime network television series and cable programs.
The 12th Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film 2004 (April 1-6, 2004) has broken the attendance record of the last festival with more than 40,000 attendees. The closing events were completely sold out. 500 films were screened at four venues over the six days. Adding to its international acclaim, TRIPLETS OF BELLEVILLE took home the feature prize.

Nickelodeons DORA THE EXPLORER is one of the winners of the 63rd Annual Peabody Awards to be awarded by the University of Georgias Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication on May 17, 2004. The 29 award winners for excellence in electronic media, chosen from more than 1,100 entries, also includes recognition for Japans TV Asahi, MOTHER FLEW AWAY AS A KITE, an arresting animated recounting of the last days of WWII.
Children showed they treasure undersea animation, voting for FINDING NEMO and SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS as their Favorite Movie and Favorite Cartoon, respectively, in the 17th annual Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards awarded April 3, 2004 during a live broadcast on the cablenet. Kids voted online and by phone for the winners.
SpongeBob took additional honors as Favorite Video Game for SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS: BATTLE FOR BIKINI BOTTOM.

KING OF THE HILL exec producers John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky have announced that they will be entering their animated series in the live-action categories including outstanding comedy series, reports VARIETY. The move really was spurred to allow the show's writing staff a chance to be cognized because the Academy does not have a separate writing category for animation.
"We feel we're doing high-level work, and we want to be judged by our peers," Altschuler said. "We've always wanted to compete in that category."
Cal Art students swept the traditional animation category at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation's 25th Annual College Television Awards Competition. Cal Arts' David Derrick, ByoungJik Lee and Chris Choy took first, second and third respectively for their toon work. Ringling School of Art & Design students did well in the non-traditional animation category taking second and third with first place going to Craig Van Dyke of Brigham Young.
