I Have a Question Sawako Kabuki

In which Chris Robinson asks animation professionals profoundly inane questions about the inner workings of their existence. Today's guests is Sawoko Kabuki, whose work is being screened at the 2018 GLAS Animation festival this week.

'The Potone!' by Sawako Kabuki

Sawako Kabuki is an eccentric young animation artist in the tradition of legendary Japanese animator, Yōji Kuri.  Her work pushes the boundaries of comfort by depicting female bodies masturbating, defecating, and even puking.  Her luridly coloured films are surreal and daring.  There is always a tongue in cheek sense of humour lurking around in the corners of her work.

She agreed to meet me in a toilet inside a horse farm in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. We counted horse turds while reminiscing about Mr. Ed and his tragic ending. It was a Thursday. The weather was like Donald O’Connor. Hot. The time was not discussed.

I get the greatest pleasure from blood donation.

The name of my autobiography would be Raw

My most beloved possession is my parents.

A (non-family member) person I have high respect for is Taro Okamoto

The song that makes me tingle is Queen's live videos, especially this song:

The funniest thing that happened to me….

As a recent event, there is a project we are doing with myself and a friend.

When a good poop comes out, we send the images to each other. And we are making new font from them. The alphabet is completed soon. Stay tuned.

I’d like to be remembered as a good girl.
