Reebok Calls On Viewpoint Creative For In-store And Online Infotainment

Looking to articulate the state-of-the-art technology that goes into their cross-training and running shoes, sports apparel manufacturer Reebok turned to Viewpoint Creative, the award-winning creative agency specializing in lifestyle and entertainment brands.

Viewpoint created an in-store/online infotainment campaign that featured five different technologies developed by Reebok. Each vignette distilled these complex technologies in a clear and visually captivating point of purchase video that worked for both in-store and online.

Tropic Thunder's Visual Effects Play Up The Laughs

Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. lead an ensemble cast in DreamWorks Pictures' TROPIC THUNDER, an action comedy about a group of self-absorbed actors who set out to make the biggest war film ever. After ballooning costs (and the out of control egos of the pampered cast) threaten to shut down the movie, the frustrated director refuses to stop shooting, leading his cast deep into the jungles of Southeast Asia for "increased realism," where they inadvertently encounter real bad guys.

Watching The Watchmen Lawsuit

Fox has won a round in the ongoing battle over the rights to graphic novel WATCHMEN, which is being turned into a feature film by Warner Bros., according to VARIETY. A judge has denied a motion filed by Warner Bros. to dismiss the lawsuit filed by Fox in February over their right to make the film.

Fox could end up as a profit participant in the film, costing WB millions in box office cash. Fox's legal team says it is looking to prevent the film from being released altogether.

IMAX Comments On Change To 2008 Film Slate

Reflecting Thursday's announcement that the release date of HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE has moved to July 2009, IMAX Corporation, confirmed it is already exploring alternative titles for this year's holiday season and is "confident" it will secure a solid film for the IMAX theatre network.

The company will announce a replacement film as soon as possible.

Disney announced it has moved their next animated feature, BOLT, up a week, to November 21 to fill the vacancy.

Ray Tracing Is Now Interactive On The GPU

NVIDIA demonstrated the world's first fully interactive GPU-based ray tracer at SIGGRAPH this week.

Based purely on NVIDIA GPU technology, the ray tracer shows linear scaling rendering of a highly complex, two-million polygon, anti-aliased automotive styling application.

A Look At Battlestar Backdoor Pilot Virtuality

SCI FI WIRE's John Sullivan recently visited the set of VIRTUALITY, Ronald D. Moore's pilot for Fox, currently shooting in Vancouver.

The show takes place aboard the PHAETON, Earth's first interstellar starship, whose 12-person crew is on a 10-year voyage, and is the backdoor pilot for soon to be concluded Sci Fi Channel series BATTLESTAR GALACTICA.

Twilight Moves In On Potter Vacancy

TWILIGHT, the first film in Summit Ent.'s thriller romance franchise, has moved up its North American release date to Friday, November 21, 2008. The film, which was previously planned to be released on December 12, 2008, is taking advantage of HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE moving to next summer.

The new release date for TWILIGHT allows the studio to both bring the film to the written-series' enormous fan base sooner, and to present the film in more theaters prior to the holiday movie-going season where traditionally screen time for any popular film is limited.

Ray Feeney Receives VES 2008 Founders Award

President and founder of RFX Inc., Ray Feeney has been selected by the VES Board of Directors as the recipient of the 2008 VES Founders Award. The award will be presented at the VES Annual Membership Meeting in September.

Feeney is a founding member and former Board Member and Vice Chairman of the Visual Effects Society. In addition, he has received multiple Academy Awards as well as the John A. Bonner Medal of Commendation and most recently, the Academy honored Ray Feeney with the 2007 Gordon E. Sawyer Oscar.

Three-time Emmy winner Christopher Lloyd has joined the cast of Sci Fi Channel's upcoming four-hour fantasy/adventure miniseries MIRABILIS (working title). Lloyd will play Tesselink, a venerable senior elf and accomplished master of bloodsteel sorcery who aids his granddaughter Perfidia (Natassia Malthe) and a band of knights in their quest for the crucible that may save Mirabilis.
