3D Entertainment Hires Former National Geographic IMAX Film Sales Director

IMAX industry veteran Patricia Brandino has joined 3D Entertainment Distribution in the newly created position of VP, Film Sales. Effective September 7, Brandino will be responsible for theatrical sales of the company's current and future film catalogue in North America, including Jean-Michel Cousteau's DOLPHINS AND WHALES 3D released domestically at IMAX 3-D theatres earlier this year. She will report directly to Francois Mantello, the chairman of 3D Entertainment and its distribution unit.

Universal Pictures Int'l Ramps Up Blu-ray -- Hulk First Up

Universal Pictures International Ent. will release THE INCREDIBLE HULK on DVD and Blu-ray on October 13, marking the studio's first international day-and-date wide debut of a Blu-ray new release feature film.

The film will be released on DVD and Blu-ray in the U.S. on October 21.

From Marvel Studios, THE INCREDIBLE HULK, starring Edward Norton, Tim Roth and Liv Tyler has earned $250 million in worldwide box office. Bonus features on the Blu-ray will include the U-Control application and interactive features via BD-Live.

Sci Fi And MGM Reach For The Stars With Stargate Universe

Sci Fi Channel and MGM Television Ent. have reached an agreement to extend MGM's STARGATE brand with a new series for the channel. Production on the first season of STARGATE UNIVERSE, a weekly series based on the popular STARGATE franchise, will begin in early 2009, with the show targeted to premiere that Summer.

Brad Wright and Robert Cooper, co-creators of STARGATE SG-1 and STARGATE ATLANTIS and who both currently serve as exec producers on ATLANTIS, will serve as exec producers and writers on the new series.

Sci Fi Channel Greenlights Stargate Atlantis Film

Sci Fi Channel has greenlit a two-hour movie based on science fiction adventure series STARGATE ATLANTIS. Sci Fi will have the exclusive worldwide television premiere of the yet to be titled STARGATE ATLANTIS film, which will then be released on DVD by MGM.

The movie will be written by STARGATE ATLANTIS exec producers Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie, who also serve as series showrunners. The movie is set to follow the fifth and final season of STARGATE ATLANTIS, as it draws nearer to its conclusion in January 2009.
