Raimi, Maguire Locked In For Spidey 4

Director Sam Raimi and star Tobey Maguire have been signed up to do SPIDER-MAN 4, according to Nikkie Finke's DEADLINE HOLLYWOOD DAILY. The script will be from ZODIAC writer Jamie Vannderbilt with a release date set for May 2011.

Sony Pictures Co-Chair Amy Pascal was openly discussing replacing Maguire a few weeks ago, because the actor was unsure he wanted to return. Kirsten Dunst's Mary Jane Watson will be in the film, although the actress has yet to sign a deal.

Del Toro Adds Projects, Booked Through 2017

Guillermo del Toro has plans for the next decade, including remakes of FRANKENSTEIN, THE HOBBIT two-picture project and an adaptation of DROOD, per VARIETY.

Universal has a three-year first look deal with del Toro they signed a year ago, and have committed to him with four directing projects, including remakes of FRANKENSTEIN, DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE and SLAUGHTERHOUSE-FIVE. Project four will be an adaptation of Dan Simmons' novel DROOD that is set for publication by Little, Brown in February.

It's official, Escape Studios is now open for business in the heart of the Big Apple. Founder Dominic Davenport said, "This has been a long-standing ambition of ours -- we are delighted to be able to offer our CG expertise across America."

Robin Shenfield, CEO of post production house The Mill added, "Escape trainees are in a class of their own and well equipped to enter the working environment. We're looking forward to meeting more of them with the opening of Escape in the U.S."

Finish have recently finished work on a Tiger Aspect production NO HEROICS for ITV2 in the U.K., the channel's first sitcom.

Directed by Ben Gregor using a single camera, NO HEROICS follows the very real lives of four off-duty superheroes in London, their struggles in love and their bigger struggles with fame -- or lack of it. Based in a superheroes-only Soho pub, the sitcom focuses on their relationships, their sex lives and their constant desperation for success and fame.

MGM Scares Up A Director For Poltergeist

MGM has signed Vadim Perelman (HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG) to direct POLTERGEIST.

Cale Boyter, Exec VP, Production and Luke Ryan, VP, Production, are overseeing the project for MGM.

Currently directing and executive producing ICE, a drama pilot for the AMC cable network, Perelman wrote and directed HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG, starring Jennifer Connelly and Ben Kingsley, which earned three Oscar nominations in 2004. Recently, Perelman directed THE LIFE BEFORE HER EYES starring Uma Thurman and Evan Rachel Wood.

New Live Action Tarzan May Have Director

Stephen Sommers is negotiating to be brought on to direct the next feature version of TARZAN for Warner Bros. and producer Jerry Weintraub, per VARIETY.

Sommers would also co-write the script with Stuart Beattie. TARZAN has been in development at WB and Weintraub since 2003, when John August was hired to write a script. Guillermo del Toro negotiated two years ago to direct.

Trial Date For Watchmen Set

A federal judge in Los Angeles has set January 6 as the start date for the trial for 20th Century Fox's lawsuit over Warner Bros.' right to their upcoming WATCHMEN film, per VARIETY.

WB has not changed the March 6 release date for the film, based on the graphic novel written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons.

Judge Gary Allen Feess set the date Tuesday morning in a meeting between attorneys, setting up discovery and deposition proceedings for the rest of the year.

Publicis Mojo's new campaign for the Toyota Camry in Australia is an unpretentious and inventive tale about finding inspiration and the connectivity of ideas.

Tarantino's Bastards Nab Diane Kruger

Diane Kruger (TROY, NATIONAL TREASURE) has been cast in Quentin Tarantino's INGLORIOUS BASTARDS, in a role that had been rumored to be Nastassja Kinski's, per THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

Kruger will play Bridget Von Hammersmark, the glamorous German actress who aids a group of American soldiers on a World War II mission to kill Nazis to infiltrate a movie premiere. Kinski was in talks with Tarantino, who flew to Germany to meet with her, but a deal was not reached. Kruger, who, like Kinski, is German, will speak in German and in English for the role.

MECHnology Produces VFX For ABC Family's The Middleman

Burbank, California-based MECHnology Visual Effects Studio finished the first season of ABC Family's THE MIDDLEMAN, producing almost 400 visual effects for the series.

Based on the comic book series, written and produced by Javier "Javi" Grillo-Marxuach, the series follows Wendy Watson (Natalie Morales), a struggling artist working at a temp agenc, who is recruited by The Middleman (Matt Keeslar) and trained to be the next Middleman.

VFX software developer The Foundry has appointed Richard Shackleton as the new product manager for Nuke, its compositing system. Shackleton has more than 15 years experience of product development in the visual effects/editing markets, having previously worked in similar roles with well-known manufacturers, including The Foundry. He takes over from Matt Plec, who has become Nuke product designer.

Ricky Schroder To Tame Hellhounds

Ricky Schroder will direct HELLHOUNDS for the Sci Fi Channel, per THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. Set in 500 B.C., Kleitos (Scott Elrod) battles the hellhounds of Hades to rescue his love from the Underworld and bring her back to life.

The film, with a script by Paul A. Birkett, will be CG- and vfx-heavy. Shooting starts this weekend in Romania. Canada's Muse Ent. and Romania's S.C. Studiourile Media Pro are co-producers. Muse's Michael Prupas will exec produce with RHI Ent.'s Robert Halmi Sr. Robert Halmi Jr. will handle distribution.
