ABC Will Feel a Sci-Fi Impact

ABC has picked up miniseries IMPACT from Germany's Tandem Communications, according to multiple news outlets.

The sci fi series, according to VARIETY, is about humanity's efforts to survive after the moon is hit by a meteor and heads toward Earth. The Sci Fi Channel (owned by NBC Universal) took second-window rights, while Sony Pictures Home Ent. will distribute the DVD and Blu-ray.

MPC has signed award-winning colorist Paul Harrison to their team. Complimenting the talents of Jean-Clement Soret, Mark Gethin, George K and Kenny Gibb, Harrison joins as Senior Colorist. The team sheet includes some of the most highly respected international colorists and is lead by Jean-Clement Soret who graded Danny Boyle's multiple Oscar-winning SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE.

Indy Soundtracks Get Individual Re-release

Concord Records has released the individual soundtracks to the original three INDIANA JONES films: RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM and INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE.

All three feature Oscar-winning composer John Williams' soundtracks digitally remastered from the original tapes, plus unreleased music from each respective film. Previously available only as part of last year's box set release INDIANA JONES: THE SOUNDTRACKS COLLECTION, these reissued CDs will be available individually for the first time from producer Laurent Bouzereau.

Watchmen's Haley is Now a Human Target

Jackie Earle Haley (Rorschach in WATCHMEN) will co-star in Fox's drama pilot HUMAN TARGET, alongside PUSHING DAISIES' Chi McBride, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

HUMAN TARGET, a DC Comics title, is about Christopher Chance (Mark Valley), who does freelance security by assuming the identities of the people in danger. Haley will play Chance's information guy, while McBride is set to play Chance's business partner and friend.

Chris Columbus' 1492 Ent. has optioned the motion picture rights to Ben Templesmith's graphic novel WELCOME TO HOXFORD from IDW Publishing. Columbus will produce with 1492 partners Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe. Michelle Miller brought the project into 1492.

Watchmen Doubles 300 Thursday Gross

WATCHMEN did $4.6 million in midnight Thursday shows, according to VARIETY, almost doubling Zack Snyder's 300 same-day numbers.

The Warner Bros. film played 1,595 midnight runs, and expanded to 3,611 on Friday, the most ever for an R-rated film. IMAX sold out all of their midnight screenings, and had to add 3 a.m. showings to keep up with demand. Most of their screens are sold out for the weekend.

300 went on to gross $70.9 million in its opening March 2006 weekend, making $2.5 million on Thursday.

Prime Focus Wins Filmfare VFX Award

Prime Focus won the prestigious Filmfare award for Best Visual Effects for its work on Bollywood sci-fi movie LOVE STORY 2050. The award was given to Merzin Tavaria, creative head for VFX/Animation at Prime Focus and vfx supervisor on LOVE STORY 2050 at the 54th Filmfare awards night held in Mumbai on February 28, 2009.

Watchmen Set for Record Number of Theaters, More than 120 IMAX Screens

WATCHMEN will open on 3,611 screens this weekend, the most ever for an R-rated film, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

Among those will be 124 IMAX theaters, as well as 29 international IMAX theaters. On MovieTickets.com, IMAX ticket sales account for one-third of all Watchmen sales, and IMAX's site crashed four times this week due to WATCHMEN traffic surges, according to IMAX Filmed Entertainment president Greg Foster.

Universal Pictures, working on another BOURNE IDENTITY installment, will keep Matt Damon close by with a new George Nolfi sci-fi love story, according to VARIETY.

TRANSFORMERS actress Megan Fox will star opposite Josh Brolin and John Malkovitch in Warner Bros.' JONAH HEX and is attached to star and develop FATHOM at Fox Atomic, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

In HEX, an action Western based on the DC Comics character, Fox will play Leila, Hex's love interest and a gunslinger herself. Filming is set to begin in April under Mad Chance's Andrew Lazar and Weed Road's Akiva Goldsman producing.

Alfred Molina will play evil magician Horvath in Disney's THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. Nicolas Cage, Jay Baruchel and Teresa Palmer are also starring in the Jon Turteltaub-directed film with producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

In modern-day Manhattan, an average college student (Baruchel) is recruited to work for a sorcerer named Bathazar Blake (Cage), who gives him a crash course in magic to prepare him to battle the forces of darkness. Palmer will play Baruchel's love interest.
