Disc owners will utilize BD-Live to simultaneously view the film with their friends and make comments.

Half-Blood Prince to Open Giffoni in Italy

The Italian premiere of HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE will open on July 12 at the 39th edition of the Giffoni Festival. The film, distributed by Warner Bros, will hit the screens in the U.S. on July 15.

It will have its world premiere on July 6 in London.

Fox's animated ICE AGE 3 and Disney's G-FORCE will also have their international launch at the 14-day festival, being renamed the Giffoni Experience.

The Gnomon Workshop Releases New Creating Next-Gen Characters For Games DVD

In this DVD, Richard Smith guides you through modeling a Next-Gen game character. Richard starts with a rough concept design and then creates a low-res base mesh. From there he sculpts each part in ZBrush with special attention paid to creating realistic clothing folds. Once each part is completely sculpted Richard retopologizes it inside of Maya using a plug-in called Nex. Finally, using XNormal he creates the normal map and then sets everything up in Maya.

CBS Films Acquires Comic Station

Boom! Studios' comicbook miniseries STATION has a feature film home at CBS Films, according to VARIETY. I, ROBOT writer Jeff Vintar will pen the screenplay. Laurence Mark will produce alongside Boom! Studios co-founders Andrew Cosby and Ross Richie. David Blackman is the exec producer. In the comic, created by Johanna Stokes, five countries commission their best astronauts to man the first multinational space station. However, suspicion takes over when one is found dead.

Dark Castle Has an Apparition

Joel Silver's Dark Castle is developing the haunted house flick THE APPARITION, VARIETY reports. The project was developed by music video director Todd Lincoln, Dark Castle exec Alex Heineman and producer Daniel Alter. The plot is hush-hush, but is based on true events. Lincoln and Alter also have THE NYE INCIDENTS, based on Whitley and Craig Spector's graphic novel, set up at Dark Castle. Silver, Heineman, and Dark Castle co-president Andrew Rona will produce.

Diesel & Singleton Steer Wheelman

Paramount Pictures has put John Singleton in the driver's seat of their adaptation of THE WHEELMAN videogame, according to VARIETY. Vin Diesel, who starred and produced the Ubisoft game, will star in the feature film as well. In the game, Diesel plays a retired expert driver who must resurface in order to protect a woman from his past. Oliver Butcher and Stephen Cornwell rewrote the original script from Rich Wilkes.

Keanu is Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Universal has hired Keanu Reeves to star in its modern rendition of Robert Louis Stevenson's THE STRANGE CASE OF DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. REVOLUTIONARY ROAD scribe Justin Haythe is writing the script. Titled JEKYLL, the twist on the well-known plot is being kept on the low down. Nicolas Winding Refn, director of the Danish PUSHER series, is in talks to helm. Erwin Stoff and Red Wagon Ent.'s Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher are set to produce.

Ratner Off Conan

EMPIRE chatted with CONAN producer Joe Gatta, who said that director Brett Ratner is no longer attached to helm the film. Gatta said he wanted to work the RUSH HOUR director, but the timing didn't work out. Even with no director, Gatta still hopes to start shooting August 24th in Bulgaria. As for the actors to play the barbarian, Gatta said once a helmer is set and open casting call will be held to find the new Conan.
