Disneynature Adds OceanWorld 3-D to Its Slate of Theatrical Releases

Disneynature has acquired the North American and Mexican distribution rights to the exciting new underwater film "OceanWorld 3D," the first feature-length nature documentary ever filmed and released in 3D, it was announced today by Jean-Francois Camilleri, executive vice president and general manager for Disneynature, and Francois Mantello, chairman of 3D Entertainment.

Bekmambetov Talks Wanted 2, Jolie's Character to Come Back

WANTED director Timur Bekmabetov talked to Russian news website RIA NOVOSTI recently, and the helmer said they are making preparations for a sequel, and that they've found a way to bring back Angelina Jolie's character back to life (via ComingSoon.net).

"In July we will start preparation for the film. I think in the late autumn or winter shooting will be performed. The shooting will take place in America, India and Russia," Bekmabetov said.

Moon Features VFX From Cinesite

Cinesite created all of the visual effects, and oversaw the Visual Effects Supervision for Liberty Films' sci-fi thriller MOON. Their work involved the creation of over 270 visual effects shots, including the photorealistic CG Gerty robot (one of the film's principal characters), stunning panoramic digital lunarscape matte paintings showing the space environment, and extensive multi-element compositing.

Del Toro Announces Hobbit Casting

On BBC Radio 5, Guillermo del Toro announced that Hugo Weaving, Andy Serkis and Ian McKellen will all reprise their roles from THE LORD OF THE RINGS in his two-part HOBBIT screen adaptation. Weaving played Elrond the elf leader, Serkis played Gollum and McKellen received an Oscar nomination for his performance as wizard Gandalf. The two films are set to be released December 2011 and December 2012.

Ghosts/Aliens Has Its Investigators

Comedy Central has hired Jonathan Sadowski and Keir O'Donnell to star in the pilot for the new live-action comedy GHOSTS/ALIENS, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. Based on Trey Hamburger's novel, the story follows two stoners who set out to reveal the truth about supernatural creatures. The book is also being developed as a feature at Paramount Vantage. Cast also includes Rebecca Wisocky as Trey's angry single mom and Kaylee DeFer as a fellow ghost hunter.

WATCHMEN scribe David Hayter, along with his Dark Hero Studios partner Benedict Carver, will team up with Pandemonium's Bill Mechanic to bring the zombie comic series, DEADWORLD, to the screen, reports VARIETY. TV GUIDE has gotten word from STAR TREK director J.J. Abrams that Tom Cruise has asked him back to produce MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 4. Abrams said that he and Cruise have "a really cool idea [they] are pursing." Whether or not the M:I 3 helmer would direct is up to his busy schedule and when the film would be ready to go before cameras.

Rob Cohen Gets Medieval

Director Rob Cohen has stepped down from the reins of the third XXX film in order to helm MEDIEVAL, according to VARIETY. Sony's XXX: THE RETURN OF XANDER CAGE would have seen Cohen reuniting with original XXX star Vin Diesel, but Cohen seems more interest now in "THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN in the Middle Ages" film at New Regency.
