| Nearly 90% of children who die in developing countries die of preventable illness. This makes saving their lives as much a communication challenge as it is a medical problem. As they go through childhood, information and education are among the best tools to help a family maintain good health and overcome poverty. UNICEF is the world's leading international development organization working for children in over 140 countries. UNICEF believes that by saving lives and ensuring that the rights of children are respected, many of the social problems which occur in adulthood could be solved in a generation. We now have the knowledge and capacity to prevent much of the illness which keeps poor communities all over the world trapped in a cycle of poverty. | ![]() © UNICEF/C88-17/Goldsmith | ||

UNICEF recognizes the tremendous power of mass communications to spread information and educate. It has successfully used radio, film and television and has inspired street theater, puppets and publications in areas where electricity has not yet reached. However, in the past several years, UNICEF has begun to utilize the medium of animation, not just for raising funds, but for communicating life-saving information. The results have been overwhelmingly positive. Animation has proven to be one of the best media to communicate to pre-literates. It has been inspirational in setting role models for children, it has universal application and has a long shelf life so that it can provide useful information for years after it's creation. Please read on to find out the extent of UNICEF's work in animation and discover how you can help. | ||
