Design Festa Vol. 28

Design Festa is an international art event open to all artists from all over the world to exhibit their creative talent. Anyone who has original work can take part and express themselves through this freestyle event. There are no restrictions. Express your ideas at Design Festa for an opportunity at experimentation and the next step in your artistic lives. About 7,000 artists attended last time with more than 55,000 visitors.

Aaron Sims' Appearances During SIGGRAPH 2008

Creature designer Aaron Sims will be making several appearances in conjunction with the 2008 SIGGRAPH conference and exhibition. Sims will divulge his creative process to hundreds of SIGGRAPH attendees representing all facets of the industry as well as members of the media. In addition, one of his most compelling pieces of work to date will be revealed during a VIP event introducing the RabbitHoles hologram exhibition at 7:30 p.m. on August 12 at Hollywood's Gnomon Gallery, located at the Gnomon School of Visual Effects.

Smoke & Mirrors Adds VFX Specialist Nicholas Seresin

Smoke & Mirrors New York has added award-winning VFX Supervisor/Flame Artist Nicholas Seresin to its growing roster of talented artists. Most recently, Seresin was a vfx supervisor/Flame and Inferno artist at London-based The Moving Picture Company. Prior to MPC, Seresin operated the flame for film, TV and commercials projects at The Mill.

Framestore Puts A Grave Face On Harvey Dent

Framestore was one of only a handful of digital effects studios chosen to work on THE DARK KNIGHT by director Christopher Nolan, who notoriously prefers to work in-camera and practically as much as possible, turning to digital effects only when they offer him otherwise unachievable and un-improvable results. Framestore's shots for the film encompassed matte paintings, digital doubles (including a CG Batman), vehicles, crowds, and the highly sensitive Harvey Dent/Two-Face CG work.

Not To Scale Signs With Yellow House Paris In A Dual Representation Deal

London-based animation studio Not To Scale has signed an exclusive dual representation deal with Yellow House Paris for them to represent most of their U.K. roster in France. National TV, Coan & Zorn, Ubik, Chris Ketchell and other Not To Scale directors will now be available for work locally in Paris.

Similarly, Not To Scale will have access to produce work with Yellow House's eclectic roster in the U.K. Adding the work of the surreal and enigmatic DouDouBoy and Laurent Bebin to the U.K. roster.

Digit Has Invisible Hand In Get Smart's VFX

When audiences head to theaters on June 20 to see Warner Bros. feature GET SMART, they will not see the work of Digit. That's because the premier digital studio led by Creative Director/Founder Elad Offer (and known in the feature realm as Moneyshots) was hired to produce 100 invisible vfx shots.

Data Design Interactive Open Office In Florida

Video game developer and publisher Data Design Interactive has opened a U.S. office in Sarasota, Florida.

The purpose of opening this new studio is to help provide the correct creative atmosphere required to work effectively on today's projects. The emphasis has been placed on providing both a natural and open work environment with sunshine 320 days of the year, a central location, a ten minute walk to the ocean and a two-hour drive to Walt Disney World in Orlando.

A Real Iron Man?

Raytheon Company's newest research facility in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, is developing a robotic suit for the soldier of tomorrow.

Known as an "Exoskeleton," it is essentially a wearable robot that amplifies its wearer's strength, endurance, and agility. In its May issue, POPULAR SCIENCE magazine likens the Exoskeleton to the IRON MAN in the movie of the same name and suggests a blurring of the lines between science fiction and reality.
