Celluloid Studios Makes Everybody Uno

Celluloid Studios recentlycompleted three different animated spots for the card game UNO, byway of agency FCB/Chicago and client Mattel Games. The threecommercials (30-, 20- and 15-seconds), titled "Everybody UNO," willair worldwide. New York illustrator Kirsten Ulve provided the retrocharacter design for the spots, which was animated in a minimaliststyle to complement the design. Zilpha Yost Promoted To President Of Vinton's Advertising Division

Zilpha Yost was recently promoted to president of Vinton Studios advertising division overseeing all aspects of Vintons commercial business, including sales, marketing, creative and production. Yost has been with Vinton Studios since 1992, when she joined the company as a producer. She was promoted to senior producer, where she took charge of the M&M's campaign, then executive producer. In 2000, she was promoted to head of commercial production, where she directed creative operations of the studios advertising division.

Film Roman And Mongadillo Studios Swim With Shawks

Film Roman, Inc. has announced an agreement with Portland, Oregon-based animation house Mongadillo Studios to develop the original web cartoon SHAWKS into a television series. SHAWKS details the struggle of four eight year olds to rid the world of its most evil foe -- sharks masquerading as people.

Vinton Studios Acquires Celluloid

Portland, Oregon-based animation house Vinton Studios has acquired Denver-based Celluloid Studios, which specializes in cel animation. Vinton Studios has announced that the two companies will be combined to create a more diverse style of animation, although each studio will retain their company name. Vinton and Celluloid recently collaborated on a 4-minute advertising short for TBWA/Chiat Days client Nissan and their SE-R automobile launch.

Vinton Studios Hires Former ILM Commercial Head John RA Benson

Portland, Oregon-based Vinton Studios has hired John RA Benson to manage the studios' computer animation department, where he will oversee all aspects of Vinton's CG production. Before joining Vinton Studios, Benson spent five years as the head of computer animation in the commercial division of ILM. Prior to that, he spent four years supervising traditionally and digitally animated productions at San Francisco's Colossal Pictures.

This Thursday! Pixar Honored By Los Angeles Museum Of Art

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) will celebrate the 15th anniversary of Pixar Animation Studios on Thursday, January 10 beginning at 7:30 pm. Pixar founder John Lasseter will participate in a retrospective of the studio's feature and short films, as well as a Q&A hosted by ABC-TV film critic Joel Siegel. Clips from the studio's four feature films and five animated short films will be presented. Also scheduled to attend the event are Pete Docter, director of MONSTERS, INC., Ed Catmull, president of Pixar Animation Studios, and other Pixar filmmakers.

THQ Acquires New Media Provider Rainbow Studios

Interactive software developer and distributor THQ Inc. has completed its acquisition of digital entertainment creator Rainbow Studios by issuing 858,203 shares of common stock. These shares are subject to adjustment pending the determination of Rainbow's net book value. THQ also assumed existing Rainbow stock options providing for the further issuance of 106,259 shares of THQ common stock. Rainbow Studios is now a wholly owned subsidiary of THQ. Mark DeSimone and Tony Sutterheim will continue to manage Rainbow Studios as president, games and president, animation, respectively.

Universal Studios Launches New Logo To Celebrate E.T.’s 20th

Universal Studios is using the 20th anniversary re-release of Steven Spielbergs classic film E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL to launch a 13-month long branding initiative that includes a new Universal logo featuring E.T. According to the studio, the image of E.T. will be an integral part of Universal's identity and business activities, and will be featured in all film, television, home entertainment, theme parks, music, consumer products, publishing and online products. This corporate identity program will complement the March 2002 worldwide release of E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL.

Jeremiah Gets Series Treatment At Showtime

Showtime Networks has greenlit a new series from MGM, entitled, JEREMIAH, based on Platinum Studios' award-winning graphic novel series by Belgian author Hermann Huppen. The show will star Luke Perry (BEVERLY HILLS, 90210) and Malcolm-Jamal Warner (MALCOLM & EDDIE). The 20-episode series, set to debut in early 2002, is being produced by Jeremiah Productions Inc. in association with Lion's Gate Television and Platinum Studios and will be distributed by MGM Worldwide Television Distribution. J. Michael Straczynski (BABYLON 5) will serve as showrunner and executive producer for the series.

Portland, Oregons Vinton Studios announced The Tiki Challenge, an unusual contest aimed at advertising agency employees only. The winner will be awarded a certificate worth $50,000 off the cost of a computer-generated commercial production at Vinton Studios, or an all-expenses-paid weekend for two in Las Vegas. Runners-up will receive invitations for an all-expenses-paid trip to the studios renowned Animation Camp in Portland, or other prizes including a MP3 player, a digital camera and a Palm Pilot.

Giant Studios Make Fruits Of Labor Using BOXX

Giant Studios' new animated short film FRUITS OF LABOR premiered this week in San Jose, California, and received a warm and enthusiastic response. The film features a cast of simple computer graphics characters - a shiny red apple, a man and a fly - animated in a stylized way and rendering with startling photo-realism. Rudy Poat, creative director for the project described the look as being, "something that looks like stop-motion and that fooled both the mind and the eye.

ViewPoint Discovers New Spots For Wings & Civilization Networks

The Discovery Channel Networks enlisted the talents of ViewPoint Studios to develop a promotional package for their Wings and Civilization Channels. ViewPoint filmed the live-action footage of a mock air battle on location in Laage, Germany. Avid editorial transformed the footage into dramatic sequences and then turned it over to the design and Flame teams. The main title and supporting text elements were developed along with further enhancements of color treatments and lighting effects.
