Tronic Studio in First Museum Show

The Knoxville Museum of Art will present Design Lab: Tronic Studio, featuring the New York City multimedia design firm Tronic Studio whose clients have included MTV, Nike, Wired, Fuse Network, Fine Living and Diesel Denim to name a few. Tronic Studio blends architecture with art, video production and interface design. The exhibition, on display at the Knoxville Museum of Art Jan. 14 to March 27, 2005, is the firm's first solo museum exhibition.

Nintendo Starting In-house Animation Studio for Features

Japanese console giant Nintendo plans to create an internal animation studio focused on animated feature production, according to a report in Japanese business publication NIKKEI JOURNAL.

This follows on the heels of a proposal by former company president Hiroshi Yamauchi, who suggested that the firm should create an animated film based on works from the famous Ogura Hyakunin Isshu collection of classic Japanese poetry. Yamauchi, still an adviser to the company and a significant shareholder, proposed the new venture at Nintendo's management event in Kyodo in October.

India’s Maya Looks To Build Toon Studio & School in Thailand

Indian animation firm Maya Ent. is seeking a joint venture partner to launch a studio and training facility for animators in Bangkok, Thailand, reports VARIETY. Graffiti has been hired as consultants to begin discussions with parties like GMM Grammy, Thailand's biggest entertainment firm, and telcos True Corp. and Shin Corp. Thailand was chosen due to its political stability, pool of talent and lower costs. Maya will own a 49% stake in the co-venture and plans to invest up to $2 million to start the animation school and $2.5 million to form the studio.

ASIFA-Hollywood presents a specially selected program of great traditional animated short films from the Zagreb Film studio ranging from 1965 to 2002 showcasing the range of talents and styles this innovative studio is best known for. Films include PASSING DAYS (1969), ALBUM (1983), DIARY (1974), FISHEYE (1980), EXCITING LOVE STORY (1989). Starting at 3:00 pm, the event will take place at The American Film Institute, Ted Ashley/Warner Bros. Screening Room, 2021 N. Western Ave. The screening is free for ASIFA members and $10 for non-members.

Kids Animate PSAs at Camp TELETOON

Twelve young people, ages 8-12 will be able to animate public service announcements (PSAs) of their choosing at CAMP TELETOON in Vancouver, at a 10-day workshop, Aug. 23-Sept. 3, 2004. In a series of hands-on workshops, the youths will develop three broadcast-quality, animated PSAs for broadcast on the TELETOON Network starting in October 2004. This community-based initiative is a partnership program between Vancouver-based Arts Umbrella Scholarship Program, Canadian broadcaster TELETOON and Vancouvers Studio B Productions.

Studio B Lands Pet Robot Series for Ontario TV

Studio B has landed a stellar deal to develop and deliver 52 11-minute episodes of MY PET ROBOT in conjunction with TV Ontario for broadcast in fall 2005.

Targeted for kids 5-8, MY PET ROBOT follows the comic adventures of two seemingly mismatched buddies: Casey, a cautious boy and Weeble, a wildly inventive robot who reacts first, and asks questions later. The series was created and developed by Studio B and the characters were designed by James Farr.

New Line Game For RPG Vamps on Big Screen

New Line Cinema has obtained the feature film rights for the role-playing game VAMPIRE: THE REQUIEM from White Wolf Publishing, reports VARIETY. Adam Fields is set to produce the film, which the studio hopes will launch a franchise. Luke Ryan and Magnus Kim will shepherd the film for the studio.

The game's world follows the night-to-night life of modern vampires. The game will be published Aug. 30 and is a follow-up to 1991's VAMPIRE: THE MASQUERADE, which was turned into an Activision videogame and the 1996 FOX TV series KINDRED: THE EMBRACED.

Studio Arts Hosts Linux Workshop

Studio Arts is presenting a series of one-day, intensive workshops designed specifically for the CG/VFX work environment. This course introduces the most essential commands in the production environment. About a Boy Helmer Gets Dark Materials to Work With

New Line Cinema has hired ABOUT A BOY director Chris Weitz to helm the film version of Philip Pullman's award-winning fantasy book series, HIS DARK MATERIALS, reports VARIETY. Tom Stoppard (BRAZIL) wrote the adaptation of the first novel THE GOLDEN COMPASS. The series chronicles two kids in parallel universes who battle shape-shifting creatures, witches and armored polar bears. New Line production president Toby Emmerich will oversee the film.

Toon Boom Animation has launched Toon Boom Studio version 2.5 for Mac OS X, a program used primarily for 2D cartoon animation. Some of the releases new features include sound scrubbing in the Timeline, the ability to draw in Sceneplanning and support for scanning.

Toon Boom's client base ranges from major studios creating Hollywood blockbuster animated films to individual animators creating their first masterpieces.

Blur Studio Brings Metal Arms' Tiny Hero to TV Spot

Blur Studio brings the tiny robot hero of Vivendi Universal's new game METAL ARMS: GLITCH IN THE SYSTEM to life in a new TV spot. The commerical was conceived by L.A. agency Kovel/Fuller. Titled COLONEL ALLOY, the spot is a mix of original computer animation produced by Blur and stock game play. The CG portion introduces Glitch, the gun-toting hero of the game, who arms himself in a subterranean fortress, then sets off to send his nemesis, the aptly-named General Corrosive, "back to the scrap heap."
