James Cameron, Nelson Gidding and Stirling Silliphant have all been attached to varying degrees to the project over the years as it jumped from New Line to DreamWorks to its current home at Warner Bros.

WB quietly acquired the remake earlier this year from DreamWorks, where it was set up with David Twohy to direct. Before that, New Line had it.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Silver Pictures are in talks with Mattel to bring HE-MAN to the big screen, reports the trades. Justin Marks (VOLTRON, SUPER MAX) is adapting the Filmation animated series into the live-action feature.

The cartoon, based on the Mattel toy line, followed Prince Adam as he commanded the powers of Castle Grayskull, which transformed him into the mighty He-Man, who battled Skeletor, who was bent on conquering the planet of Eternia.

For the live-action summer tentpole, FANTASTIC 4: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER, 20th Century Fox has secured Laurence Fishburne (THE MATRIX) to lend his voice to the Silver Surfer, reports the trades. Doug Jones (HELLBOY, PAN'S LABYRINTH) is providing the performance capture.

Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis will all be returning to the live-action sequel. Weta Digital is the chief visual effects house on the film, which is set for release June 15, 2007.

Headline News Silver Pictures Sets Up Orson Scott Card's Empire

Joel Silver's Silver Pictures has preemptively bought rights to Orson Scott Card's new book and videogame series, EMPIRE, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. Provo, Utah-based Chair Ent. Group is the underlying rights holder.

Set in a near future after the White House has been bombed, the president assassinated and a civil war has broken out, a lone spy, who is being framed for the attack, sets out to uncover the truth. Brothers Donald and Geremy Mustard of Chair and Card have developed game prototype based on the novel, which is due out on Nov. 28, 2006.

THE MATRIX masterminds Larry and Andy Wachowski are set to write and direct a long-in-development, live-action version of SPEED RACER, reports the trades. The project will reunited the brothers with their MATRIX collaborators -- producer Joel Silver, exec producer Grant Hill and visual effects supervisor John Gaeta.

Based on Tatsuo Yoshidas classic 1960s anime series, the story will chronicle the adventures of the young racecar driver Speed as he strives for fame and glory in his pimped out vehicle, Mach 5.

After nabbing James Camerons long-awaited AVATAR, Weta Digital is on the rise again: Twentieth Century Fox has chosen the Oscar-winning New Zealand studio to oversee vfx duties on THE FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER, reports THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

Character actor Doug Jones (PANS LABYRINTH, HELLBOY and HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY) will provide performance capture work in the creation of Marvel Comics Silver Surfer in much the same way that Andy Serkis portrayed Gollum and King Kong.
