Israel Gets South Park-Like Spoof of Al Qaeda
Producer/broadcaster Keshet Formats and will be producing the animated series MILITARY BASE 22 for its Israeli network Bip Comedy Channel, reports C21 Media. The company greenlit 10 episodes of the adult toon with a budget of $2 million. Beginning its run on March 21, 2004, the show is set in a secret nuclear missile base, run by a bunch of "stupid, almost criminal soldiers." Illi Edry, vp of business development at Keshet Formats, said, "It's very dark comedy, very edgy, very SOUTH PARK." Israeli CGI animation and post-production house Short Cuts will be handling the animation.
SPIKE TV Premieres Conservative Topical Comedy This Just In
Spike TV debuts a topical animated series, THIS JUST IN, created by Steve Marmel, on March 14, 2004 at 10:30 pm. Marmel, who has hosted the Annie Awards for two years running, is a standup comic and producer/head writer of Nickelodeon's hit show, THE FAIRLY ODDPARENTS.
New Batman to Be Interactively Linked to Toys
For the first time, kids (and bigger kids) can truly join in the action of the next BATMAN animated series. Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP) announced it has partnered with Mattel Inc. and VEIL Interactive Technologies to link action figure and vehicles with interactive television. The technology will be exclusive to WBCP and Mattel for 2004. VEIL (Video Encoded Invisible Light) technology transmits encoded digital data -- in the form of graphics, storyline components, gadgets and other features -- directly from show, which is captured by Mattel's new line of Batwave children's toys.

Stone Soup To Produce Independent Animator's Forum for TV
Houston, Texas-based Stone Soup has announced plans to produce WILL ANIMATE FOR FOOD, a 30-minute TV program for WTP-TV, Cable 17, a public access channel. The show will feature a series consisting of a collection of independently produced animations and animator interviews presented in a variety format.
The Naughty Animation Show
Toronto Animated Image Society is hosting Naughty Animation Show, guaranteed to invoke shocking fantasies to make you wonder, squirm and giggle. Included will be titles from TAIS members and the best of New York independent animation. The show is coming together and may include John Straiton, Bill Plympton, Signe Baume, Allen Swerling and many others. As a benefit for the Toronto Animated Image Society, the show will include an auction exhibit, and a screening at the NFB Mediatheque, accompanied by flipbooks and other naughty animation toys. Entry fee is $15.
Anime in the Limelight Extend to One Hour
Limelight Media announced that ANIME IN THE LIMELIGHT (AITL), the popular Japanese animation music show produced in Honolulu, Hawaii, officially resumed one-hour broadcasts February 7, 2004. The shows expansion was the result of AITLs new contract with Buffalo, New York-based Toon Radio (www.toonradio.net).

Radio Host Hendrie Gets Animated By Clone Scribes on Fox
POLICE ACADEMY: THE SERIES producer Steve Levitan and CLONE HIGH writers Phil Lord and Chris Miller have signed a deal to create, write and exec produce an animated series for FOX, based on Phil Hendrie, the critically-acclaimed KFI-AM talk show host, reported DAILY VARIETY. Hendrie will serve as co-exec producer and main voice talent for the series.

New Latenight Talk Entry Dares to be Different
THE ORLANDO JONES SHOW debuted June 16, 2003 at 11:00 pm on the FX cable network, featuring the popular former 7-Up TV spokesman and writer for MAD-TV, promising to offer an alternative to late night talk shows. This alternative show's slogan is "No white guy, no desk, no band." It does feature sketches, fake commercials and animated shorts in sort of a one-man MAD-TV or SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE meets DENNIS MILLER LIVE. Half-hour episodes will air Monday through Thursday with a rerun on Fridays.
