Headline News Monsters vs. Aliens DVD to Include B.O.B. Short

The MONSTERS VS. ALIENS DVD and Blu-ray will arrive on Earth September 29, 2009 and will include the world premiere of the brand new 3D adventure B.O.B.'S BIG BREAK, starring everyone's favorite gelatinous hero.

DreamWorks Animation announced the short at an event in Roswell, New Mexico over the weekend. B.O.B., the breakout star of MONSTERS VS. ALIENS, patrolled the Roswell UFO Festival to protect the planet and keep an eye out for invading aliens.

Headline News Robot Chicken Scribe Wired into Short Circuit

ROBOT CHICKEN writer Dan Milano has been hired to bring a new twist to the 1986 film, SHORT CIRCUIT, according to VARIETY. The original followed Number 5, a military robot, which after being struck by lightning, became a protector of humans.

Original's producer David Foster will return to produce alongside Ryan E. Heppe and John Hyde.

The original was written by S.S. Wilson and Brent Maddock.

Headline News Dug's Special Mission on Up DVD/Blu-ray

UP producer Jonas Rivera told SCIFI Wire this week about the name and plot of the special-to-DVD/Blu-ray short Pixar has in the works.

Titled DUG'S SPECIAL MISSION, the short gives "a little bit of the backstory of what Dug was actually doing" before meeting up with Carl and Russell in UP.

UP story supervisor Ronnie Del Carmen will direct. UP, due in theaters tomorrow (May 29), should hit DVD and Blu-ray sometime this fall.

His film SEBASTIAN’S VOODOO was honored at the Short Film Corner in the presence of Jerome Paillard, Executive Director of the Marche du Film of the Cannes Film Festival.

Headline News Toy Story 3 Teaser Screens at NAB

Disney presented a short teaser trailer of TOY STORY 3 to the public for the first time Sunday at NAB in Las Vegas, reports VARIETY.

The animated short shows Woody supervising the cast of toys as they improvise a sign for the film, only to have Buzz upstage them with a high-tech version.

3-D versions of the first two TOY STORY films will be released as a double feature this fall, and the third film will debut June 18, 2010.

The studio also showed the song "Belle" from BEAUTY AND THE BEAST in 3-D. It will get a theatrical re-release in 2010.

THE CAVE: AN ADAPTATION OF PLATO'S ALLEGORY IN CLAY, directed by Michael Ramsey, won for Animated Short Jury Commendation at the Colorado-based film festival.

Headline News Columbus Short Joins Losers Cast

COMINGSOON.net (Via BlackFilm.com) reports that Columbus Short has joined the cast of THE LOSERS at Warner Bros. Pictures with director Sylvain White.

The film is a comicbook adaptation of the DC/Vertigo title about a band of black ops commandos who are set up to be killed by their own government, but escape and plot revenge.

Short will play the role of Pooch. WATCHMEN's Jeffrey Dean Morgan will play Clay, the team's leader.

The winners win a cash prize plus the chance of being propelled to the movie making major league. If their three-minute short film submitted is selected, the distributor is offering the winners the opportunity to turn it into a TV series, movie or Web series.

Peter Sohn will direct. Sohn is a story artist and animator at Pixar who also voiced Emile in RATATOUILLE.

Headline News Oscar-Nominated Shorts to Play in New York

On Saturday, February 14, New York movie lovers will have the opportunity to see all 10 of this year's Oscar-nominated films in the Animated and Live Action Short Film categories at the Academy Theater at Lighthouse International (111 East 59th Street). There will be two separate screenings of the nominated films, the first at noon and an encore presentation at 4 p.m.

To kick off Oscar Week, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present "Shorts!," a program featuring screenings of all the 2008 Academy Award-nominated films in the Animated and Live Action Short Film categories, on Tuesday, February 17, at 7:30 p.m. at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

The 2009 Sundance Film Festival announced Wednesday the jury prizes in shorts filmmaking based on outstanding achievement and merit. The Sundance Film Festival runs January 15-25, 2009 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah. Full awards will be announced the evening of January 24 at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival Awards Ceremony at the Park City Racquet Club.

Stella Artois, film networking site TriggerStreet.com and award-winning actor Kevin Spacey announced a new award program designed to help independent filmmakers. The program, called the Stella Artois Short Film Project, will provide a $50,000 cash award to one lucky filmmaker who submits an entry to TriggerStreet.com. The film, which must be no longer than 10 minutes, will be judged by the TriggerStreet.com community as well as a panel of high-level actors, directors and producers. The first winner will be unveiled and his/her short film premiered later this year.

Headline News Short Films Announced For Sundance Film Festival

Sundance Institute announced Tuesday the program of short films selected to screen at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. This year the Festival's Short Film Program comprises a record 96 short films from 5,632 submissions, and include nine U.S. animated shorts and 10 international animated shorts. Submissions grew by 10% over last year.

The 2009 Sundance Film Festival runs January 15-25, 2009 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden, and Sundance, Utah.
