Kong Swings Onto Toonami U.K.

This November, Toonami in the U.K. will begin airing a new 40-episode KONG animated series and a 74-minute animated movie from BKN New Media.

Turner Broadcastings boys action animation channel will air the U.K. premiere of KONG THE ANIMATED SERIES on Nov. 1, at 6:00 pm. The movie, KONG: KING OF ATLANTIS, will have its U.K. premiere during Toonamis popular Destination: Friday block on Nov. 11, at 5.30 pm. It will have its network premiere on Cartoon Network on Nov. 19.

Looney Tunes DVD to Strike Gold a Third Time

Warner Home Video will soon announce the fall release of the four-disc LOONEY TUNES GOLDEN COLLECTION VOLUME 3 ($64.92), reports TV SHOWS ON DVD. The set will include 60 cartoons, nine docs, 32 commentary tracks and 11 music and sound effects-only audio tracks.

WHV will also release THE LOONEY TUNES MOVIE COLLECTION, a two-disc set containing THE BUGS BUNNY/ROAD-RUNNER MOVIE and Bugs Bunny's third movie: 1001 RABBIT TALES.

Transformers Feature to Open July 4, 2007

The TRANSFORMERS live-action feature, based on the globally popular franchise will open July 4, 2004, announced DreamWorks, Hasbro Inc. and Paramount Pictures.

The movie will be directed by Michael Bay (THE ISLAND and ARMAGEDDON) from a screenplay being written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (THE ISLAND). Steven Spielberg is exec producing with Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Tom DeSanto (the first two X-MEN) and Don Murphy (THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN) serving as co-exec producers.

Pooh’s Heffalump Hops to DVD

POOHS HEFFALUMP MOVIE (Buena Vista Home Ent., $29.99), made by DisneyToon Studios and its former Tokyo animation unit, which has now regrouped independently as The Answer Studio, makes its way to DVD May 24, 2005. The irresistible movie introduces the charming mother and child Heffalumps to the Hundred Acre Wood and gives Roo the chance to shine when his pals are spooked and run for cover in this tale of overcoming Xenophobia. Voice cast includes Jim Cummings as Pooh, Paul Winchell as Tigger, John Fiedler as Piglet, Nikita Hopkins as Roo and Brenda Blethyn as Mama Heffalump.

MTV Announces Movie Award Nods

MTV announced the nominees for the "2005 MTV Movie Awards." Vfx and animated films make up the host of Best Movie nominees, which includes KILL BILL VOL. 2, SPIDER-MAN 2 and THE INCREDIBLES. It was also announced that FEVER PITCH star Jimmy Fallon is set to host the star-studded awards show. The 14th annual awards ceremony will air on June 9, 2005, at 8:30 pm (ET/PT). The winners will be revealed at the "2005 MTV Movie Awards," which will be taped on June 4 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

Seinfeld’s Animated Bee Movie Attracts A Swarm Of Talent

DreamWorks Animation has assembled a top-tier roster of voice talent for its upcoming computer-animated comedy, BEE MOVIE, which will star the films co-writer and producer Jerry Seinfeld. Starring opposite the famed comic will be Academy Award-winner Renée Zellweger (COLD MOUNTAIN, CHICAGO). BEE MOVIE is slated for release on November 2, 2007, following the May 18, 2007 release of the third SHREK movie.

Raven Moon Launches Animation Division

Orlando-based Raven Moon Entertainment Inc. announced today (April 18, 2005) that it is launching a new animation division targeted toward servicing and generating revenues from the entertainment, advertising and creative content producers market.

Sales for the Raven Moon Animation division will be handled by industry veterans Janice Hamlin (276-632-1772) located on the east coast and Chris Devine Dailey (310-374-1081) located in Los Angeles.

The Disney Channel kicked off the first in its series of movies made directly for TV, premiering DISNEYS KIM POSSIBLE MOVIE: SO THE DRAMA, April 8 at 8:00 pm, with another airing on Toon Disney April 11 at 5:00 pm. Texas Instruments (TI) DLP Cinema technology, the digital cinema projection technology deployed in movie theatres worldwide, assisted the directors and visual effects team of Miramax's and Dimension Films' SIN CITY during post-production to achieve the desired comic-book feel of the movie. Directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller relied upon DLP Cinema projectors to ensure rich and consistent color in the movie.

The Hundred Acre Wood crew is together again in POOH'S HEFFALUMP MOVIE, this time learning an important lesson about being accepting of others' differences and the value of true friendship. POOH'S HEFFALUMP MOVIE is only the third original Pooh feature made for theatrical release. This film introduces a new character that was not a part of the original books' illustrations. It existed only in the minds of the characters.

The seventh annual Cartoon Movie in Potsdam, Germany, paid tribute March 12, 2005 to France 3 Cinéma, Ralph Christians and the directing team of Piet De Rycker and Thilo Rothkirch (Cartoon- Film, Germany) for significantly contributing to the success of the European feature animation industry. The event, set up by Cartoon as a movie version of its successful Cartoon Forum meeting for animated series, brought together some 448 participants to focus on the fast-growing sector for European animated feature films.
