Xilam Boosts Sales Force with JC Media

French animation company Xilam has bolstered its international sales force by appointing JC Media (U.K.) to handle three English-speaking markets: the U.K., Ireland and South Africa.

JC Media, headed up by international TV heavyweight John Clutten, is a London-based boutique distributor specializing in the sale of children's programs, feature films and entertainment series throughout English-speaking territories. John Clutten will work closely with Xilam's Paris-based Sales Manager, Laurence Marty, who continues to handling international sales for the rest of the world.

Renegade Animation, Fitzroy Media Plan Animated Heathcliff Interstitials

Street-smart feline Heathcliff is about to make a comeback as media property development company Fitzroy Media (FRM) has tapped Renegade Animation to produce a series of new projects featuring the mischievous cat.

This month, Renegade will begin production of 50 two-minute animated interstitials. Animation director Darrell Van Citters, who leads Renegade's creative team, will develop an updated look for the new animation. Targeting an adult and tween audience, the new Heathcliff will focus on comedy set against a hip, club-music sound.

VIZ Media, Warner Home Video Forge Distribution Alliance

VIZ Media and Warner Home Video have reached agreement for the home entertainment distribution in the United States and Mexico of new and catalog DVD releases from VIZ Media.

Effective April 1, 2009, WHV will be the exclusive home entertainment distributor for new and catalog DVD content based on well-known franchises such as NARUTO, BLEACH, DEATH NOTE and INUYASHA as well as the POKEMON animated television series and catalog features.

More Gross-Out Moments With Frankenstein's Cat

CBBC is acquiring a second season of cartoon comedy FRANKENSTEIN'S CAT.

Voiced by comedian Joe Pasquale, the slightly stinky but strangely lovable fall-apart Cat launched on CBBC in February 2008 and is a hit with viewers as well as the schedulers, featured in BROADCAST Magazine's Top Ten Children's Shows when it aired on BBC One in the summer. The new episodes are slated for delivery in late 2010.

FRANKENSTEIN'S CAT is a co-production between Mackinnon & Saunders and Kayenta Production, Paris, and is distributed by Toronto-based CCI Ent.

Relativity Media and Universal Pictures recently extended and expanded their co-finance partnership through 2015, which will cover the majority of Universal's slate up until that time. New Investor Cashes In On Imagi

Animation studio Imagi International Holdings is selling $40 million in shares to Singapore-based Oxley Spring Media to fund their slate of films.

Imagi will use the money to complete their next full-length CG animated feature, ASTRO BOY, due out in 2009. Imagi's first feature, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, was released last year. The studio has branches in Hong Kong and Los Angeles.
