Fox Kids Jettisoning Name To Become Jetix

ABC Cable Networks, Fox Kids Europe and Fox Kids Latin America have teamed up to launch Jetix, a joint kids programming worldwide alliance that will feature original, acquired and library action/adventure series for kids to reach a combined 137 million television households in 77 countries and in 18 languages.

Featuring such popular action programs such as POWER RANGERS, Jetix programming blocks will debut in the U.S. in February 2004, with morning programming on ABC Family and primetime shows on Toon Disney.

Kids' WB! Orders Second Season of MegaMan NT Warrior

Kids' WB! has ordered 26 more episodes of the cyber/adventure anime hit series MEGAMAN NT WARRIOR from ShoPro Entertainment for a second season that will kick off in Spring 2004.

"MEGAMAN NT WARRIOR proved to be the breakout hit we knew it would be," said John Hardman, svp of Kids' WB! Programming (www.KidsWB.com). It debuted on May 17, 2003 as the #2 overall program among boys 6-11, and ranked #1 against the broadcast competition in kids 2-11 and kids 6-11, #2 in boys 2-11, and among the top seven programs in tweens 9-14 and male tweens 9-14.

Fox Kids U.K. Taps Myers Online

Online vet Paul Myers has been hired by Fox Kids U.K. as online producer, responsible for the overall look, feel and content of the Fox Kids U.K. Website (www.foxkids.co.uk), development of the company's corporate Website (www.foxkidseurope.com), with additional responsibilities for marketing and customer relationship management in order to drive registration, build site loyalty and attract new users.

Starz Encore Launches STARZ! Kids Movie Channel

Starz Encore Group launched its new premium all movie channel, STARZ! Kids, dedicated to kids ages 2-11 on Dec. 2, 2003. The new kids channel is available to affiliates at no additional license fee, and increases the number of unique channels in the Starz Super Pak to 13.

WB Creates Director of Animation Marketing Post

Warner Bros. International TV Distribution has hired Jessica Pinto for the newly created post of director of animation marketing. She will head the creative side of the new international Kids WB! blocks, in addition to managing sales and marketing presentations for programs the company distributes to other foreign networks. Previously, she served as vp, programming & scheduling for the Kids' WB! Pinto will be based in Burbank and report to Warner Bros. TV creative services svp Lisa Gregorian.

Rugrats Get All Grown Up Nov. 29 on Nick

Nickelodeon will reintroduce viewers to one of its all-time favorite family of characters, THE RUGRATS in a first-ever spin-off series, ALL GROWN UP. In a two-hour primetime premiere airing 8-10:00 pm on Nov. 29, 2003. The familiar characters will continue their adventures above rug level on the cusp of teen-hood, facing classic and comical pre-teen issues and dilemmas.

WBA Gets Goes Action-Adventure With Poindexter

Roland Poindexter has been named to the new position of svp of action-adventure properties for Warner Bros. Animation, responsible for developing this programming for broadcast, cable and made-for-video outlets. Poindexter will also be responsible for supervising creative direction of selected current series in all genres and developing animated specials for kids, as well as adults.

Fox Kids U.K. Goes 24

Fox Kids Europe is taking its U.K. channel round the clock starting Nov. 3, 2003, in one of the most competitive kids markets in the world. The channel had been broadcasting from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. The kids net plans to tap into the young, early risers, as well as those adult fans keen to tune into the channels late night POWER RANGERS, classic 80s animation and Marvel programming.

Simensky Starts PBS Programming Post Nov. 3

Children's programming veteran Linda Simensky has been named sr. director of children's programming for PBS, as of Nov. 3, 2003, based at PBS corporate headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. AWN reported on Oct. 9 that she was leaving her post at Cartoon Network to join PBS.

Simensky will manage the award-winning PBS KIDS programming block, work with producers, co-production partners and distributors throughout development, production, post-production and broadcast.

Cyberchase Scares Up Creature Feature Week On PBS Kids

A special Halloween-themed episode of CYBERCHASE, "Trick or Treat," premieres Oct. 28, 2003 (check local listings) as part of a "Creature Feature" week invading PBS KIDS on PBS. The award-winning PBS series, ARUTHUR, will also dole out five Halloween-themed episodes, airing Oct. 27-31.

Cartoon Network and Arts & Kids Team to Get Kids Into Art

Cartoon Network and The Prince of Wales Arts & Kids Foundation announced the launch of cARToon netWORK ARTWORK, a partnership designed to get children involved with the arts, and discover connections between all art forms. Workshops will be designed and led by artists from different fields including Richard E. Grant, Siobhan Davis, Quentin Blake and Benjamin Zephaniah.

Target Launches Kids & Animation Division

London-based Target Ent. Ltd. has moved into the kids and animation market with a new division, which launched its new catalog at this years MIPCOM Junior 2003. In addition to international sales across its portfolio of high quality drama and formats, Targets licensing and merchandising division is flourishing (started October 2002) and the company has firmly established itself in the competitive U.S. market with the opening of its New York office in January 2003.

Aquakids Paddles Onto French Télétoon

France Animation has signed a deal with Télétoon in France for new series AQUAKIDS. Produced by leading Korean animation company Cinepix, the 26x26 show features a state-of-the-art, dynamic 3D animation style for kids 6-12 that combines kids, robots and underwater adventures.

Set in the near future, the series is based in a fantastic world where humans live at sea and where every child has a cuddly little pet robot that can transform into a powerful diving gear.

Kids' WB! Teams with CDC to Make Kid More Healthy

Kids' WB! has announced its support for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) VERB campaign, which encourages youth, ages 9-13, to get physically active. Kids' WB! will lend characters from its body-based TV series, OZZY & DRIX. The Warner Bros. Animation-produced series follows the adventures of white blood cell cop Ozzy and his partner, over-the-counter cold pill Drix, as they defend the City of Hector -- the body of a 13-year-old boy.

MIPCOM News: Mike Young Prods. Loaded With 3D Shows

Mike Young Prods. has a busy slate of animated shows with many new 3D entries to present at MIPCOM. The busy producer has jumped headfirst into distribution, launching a new distribution arm in March 2003, headed by veteran TV sales exec Regis Brown. The U.S. studio, founded by Welsh animator Mike Young, is bringing its captivating 3D series for young children, JAKERS! THE ADVENTURES OF PIGGLEY WINKS, which debuted September 7, 2003 on PBS Kids in the U.S.

MIPCOM News: Fremantle To Bounce New Animated Concepts

The Fremantle Corp. will introduce innovative shows for both kids and young adults at this years MIPCOM beginning with the eye-popping new 3D animation series, UNDERGROUND ERNIE, for kids 4-8. From the producers (3D Films and Joella Films) of the British pre-school hit, THOMAS THE TANK ENGINE, the new series features a magical collection of talking subway trains and a character named Ernie who keeps them all running on schedule.

MIPCOM News: FKE Offers Three Fresh Ones

Fox Kids Europe (FKE) is taking 144 half-hour episodes of fresh programming to MIPCOM, including three new kids properties, SONIC X, TUTENSTEIN and SHAMAN KING.

FKE has acquired all TV and home video rights for the world, excluding North America and Asia, for 52 half-hour episodes of SONIC X from TMS Entertainment Ltd. This marks the first animated adaptation of the videogame and TV series hedgehog hero to be created in Japan, (DIC Ent. did the first animated TV series in the U.S.).
