Twentieth Century Fox Launches FoxPop, Blu-ray Interactivity

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, Spot411 and The Cimarron Group announced today an exclusive partnership to launch FoxPop, coinciding with the Blu-ray Disc and DVD release of Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian on December 1.

VIZ Media, Warner Home Video Forge Distribution Alliance

VIZ Media and Warner Home Video have reached agreement for the home entertainment distribution in the United States and Mexico of new and catalog DVD releases from VIZ Media.

Effective April 1, 2009, WHV will be the exclusive home entertainment distributor for new and catalog DVD content based on well-known franchises such as NARUTO, BLEACH, DEATH NOTE and INUYASHA as well as the POKEMON animated television series and catalog features.

British independent distributor, rights owner and producer of programming for children, Abbey Home Media, has appointed Stephen Moore as a partner and shareholder.

Set up in 1989 by Anne and Ian Miles, Abbey Home Media specializes in distributing programming for preschool franchises. These franchises currently include HORRID HENRY from Novel, SESAME STREET from Sesame Workshop, THE MAGIC ROUNDABOUT from Pathe, SPOT from Penguin and PADDINGTON BEAR and THE WOMBLES from Cookie Jar's FilmFair Catalogue.

Bo on the GO! Clocks Up Third Season And New Sales

DECODE Enterprises has made further international sales of Halifax Film's preschool series BO ON THE GO!. The series has also been commissioned for a third season by CBC in Canada, where it is currently one of the broadcaster's highest-rated preschool shows.

DECODE has sold season one to RAI SAT in Italy and season two to the Disney Channel in Spain. MNET/KTV in South Africa and TG4 in Ireland have taken TV rights for both seasons one and two. Prava I Prevodi has acquired home video and broadcast rights for both seasons for Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro.

Iron Man DVD, Blu-Ray Coming Sept. 30

VIDEO BUSINESS has confirmed that the Blu-ray and DVD releases of IRON MAN will be September 30.

Amazon.com is accepting pre-orders for the various editions, which include a two-disc special edition and single-disc DVD and the Blu-ray.

Paramount Home Ent. has not formally announced the home video release date.

Marvel Studios will pass out flash drives at their Comic-Con booth this week with a sneak-peek of the DVD.

As of this past weekend, IRON MAN has grossed more than $314 million at the box office since its May release.

SMPTE To Establish 3-D Home Entertainment Task Force

The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) is establishing a task force to define the parameters of a stereoscopic 3-D mastering standard for content viewed in the home. Called 3-D Home Display Formats Task Force, the project promises to propel the 3-D home entertainment industry forward by setting the stage for a standard that will enable 3-D feature films and other programming to be played on all fixed devices in the home, no matter the delivery channel.

Horak Moving Up At Warner Home Video

Mark Horak has been named President, Warner Home Video North America, it was announced Tuesday by Ron Sanders, President, Warner Home Video.

Horak, who most recently served as Executive Vice President and General Manager, Worldwide Operations and New Packaged Media, Warner Home Video, will take charge of the division's North American operations, to include the US, Canada, and Mexico.

In addition, he will continue to oversee worldwide global sales process and category management and will continue to report to Sanders.

Toshiba To Phase Out HD DVD

Following the news that Wal-Mart and Netflix would only carry rival product Blu-ray, Toshiba will end the format war and discontinue its line of HD DVD players.

"While we continue to believe HD DVD is the best format for consumers, based on its technological advancements and the value and quality inherent in our player offerings, recent market developments have led us to the decision to choose new and different paths," said Yoshi Uchiyama, group vice president of Toshiba's Digital A/V Marketing Group.
