Rudolph Celebrates Holidays with CBS Stars & DVD Deals

RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER, the longest-running holiday special in television history, will air its 40th anniversary broadcast Dec. 1 at 8:00 pm on the CBS Television Network. To celebrate, CBS announces its first-ever animated on-air promotional campaign that will feature 3D caricatures of current network personalities along with Rudolph and friends.

The Toronto Animated Image Society will be hosting its annual Holiday Party. Everyone is invited to come and celebrate the season. Organizers are asking everyone to bring food and drink to share. TAIS Animators' Co-op is located at 37 Hanna Avenue, Suite 231, Toronto. Enter the building by door 5A, south side of building and walk up to the second floor. Triplets TV Bound for Holiday Viewing

THE TRIPLETS OF BELLEVILLE, which was partially funded by the BBC, will air New Years Eve in the U.K. on BBC2 at 2:30 pm. The acclaimed Sylvain Chomet animated feature, which made its U.S. debut over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, was released theatrically in Britain in September.

Holiday Programs Are Good to Bardel

Vancouver-based Bardel Entertainment seems to be doing exceptionally well with holiday programming. Bardel's big Leo Award-winning production, THE CHRISTMAS ORANGE, has recently been sold to SVT Sweden and is in final negotiations with TV2 Denmark and CBBC London. This family holiday classic has aired on ABC Family in the U.S., TELETOON in Canada, TV12 in Singapore, Asia TV in Hong Kong and Teletoon in France, charming audiences with its thoughtful message and unique 2D and Flash-animatied style.

Cartoon Network Has Reindeer Cheer This Holiday Season

Drew Barrymore stars as the voice of Olive, the dog that thinks she's a reindeer in the Emmy-nominated animated holiday special OLIVE, THE OTHER REINDEER, which makes its Cartoon Network debut on December 14, at 8:00 pm. The animation is based on the illustrations of J. Otto Siebold, who co-authored the titular book with Vivian Walsh. In other reindeer news, Cartoon Network will also screen GRANDMA GOT RUNOVER BY A REINDEER for the first time on that network on December 16 at 8:00 pm.

Nickelodeon Offers Up A Very Merry Nickmas

As part of Nickelodeon's primetime slate of back-to-back holiday specials, dubbed "Nickmas" by the network, holiday favorites from the series SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS, HEY, ARNOLD!, THE FAIRLY ODDPARENTS, THE WILD THORNBERRYS and CATDOG will air, along with specials like A RUGRATS KWANZAA and an animated, musical re-telling of Charles Dickens' A CHRISTMAS CAROL. "Nickmas" specials will air throughout the month of December.

'Tis the season for festive holiday specials and the networks are rising to the occasion. Here is a selection of this holiday's television offerings:

The Disney Channel's new animated comedy series THE PROUD FAMILY will air "Seven Days of Kwanzaa," a special holiday episode featuring the guest voices of Samuel L. Jackson, Vivica A. Fox (THE HUGHLEYS, INDEPENDENCE DAY) and Raven Symone (THE COSBY SHOW). THE PROUD FAMILY Kwanzaa episode will air on the Disney Channel on Friday, December 7, at 7 pm ET/PT.

Phantom Menace Draws Viewers In First Run on TV

Fox Network preempted its regularly scheduled Sunday night block of animated comedies to air the television premiere of Star Wars: Episode One "The Phantom Menace." The move paid off for the network, with Episode One landing in 17th place for the week, drawing a 9.8 rating/15 share, which translates into over 10 million viewers. Holiday favorite Rudolph The Red-nosed Reindeer aired on CBS on Saturday night at 8 pm and garnered a 6.5 rating/12 share for 43rd place. The U.S.

Misfit Toys At MIPCOM

BKN Internationals holiday film RUDOLPH THE RED NOSED REINDEER AND THE ISLAND OF MISFIT TOYS is coming to MIPCOM. Featuring the voice talent of Rick Moranis and Jamie Lee Curtis and seven new holiday songs, the 3D animated sequel capitalizes on one of the favorite scenes from the classic RUDOLPH animated special. The 90-minute film is already scheduled to air during the 2001 holiday season on CBS in the U.S. and has video and DVD distribution in the U.K., Scandinavia and Spain.

Oedekerk’s Animated Santa Vs. The Snowman Coming to IMAX 3D

IMAX Corporation has announced that Steve Oedekerk's original animated film, SANTA VS. THE SNOWMAN, will be reformatted into IMAX 3D and anchor a special IMAX holiday film program launching in November 2002.
