Headline News Blade Runner: Final Cut to Arrive in 2007 for 25th Anniversary

Warner Home Video has retained long-term rights to Ridley Scott's BLADE RUNNER, reports VARIETY, paving the way for a new FINAL CUT in 2007 in honor of the 25th anniversary of the influential sci-fi thriller based on Philip K. Dick's novel. A limited theatrical release of the FINAL CUT will be followed by a collector's edition DVD containing all four versions of the Harrison Ford-starrer (including theatrical version, director's cut and international version).

New Line Cinema has secured the directing serves of James Wong for FINAL DESTINATION 3, reports PRODUCTION WEEKLY. Wong helmed the original film, which he co-wrote with Glen Morgan and Jeffrey Reddick. Based on a script by Wong and Morgan, the third installment follows high school students Wendy Christensen and Kevin Fischer as they try and stop Death from killing off the survivors of a roller coaster accident. Its official: The four-disc THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING SPECIAL EXTENDED DVD EDITION (New Line Home Ent., $39.99) will hit stores on Dec. 14. As expected, it will contain more than 50 minutes of new footage, including a cameo by director Peter Jackson being quelled by an arrant arrow, and 300 new vfx shots (for a 250-minute running time). Square Enix Co., Ltd. has announced that it will screen a special preview edition of the upcoming FINAL FANTASY VII ADVENT CHILDREN at the 61st Venice International Film Festival, September 1-11 in Venice, Italy. The film is a direct-to-DVD CG-animated sequel to FINAL FANTASY VII, one of the best-selling PlayStation videogames of all time. FINAL FANTASY VII ADVENT CHILDREN will be shown as part of "Venezia Digitale," the new digital image category of the festival. Since the product is still in development, a special preview will be screened at the festival.

The CGI animated feature, FINAL FANTASY VII ADVENT CHILDREN, will continue the story of the game, which sold more than 9 million units worldwide. No release date has been set. The first move into film for this popular gaming franchise was the 2001 photoreal feature FINAL FANTASY, which was a disaster at the box office.

Square Enix U.S.A. has announced that they will present the first FINAL FANTASY symphony concert in the U.S. to be performed by the acclaimed Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Master Chorale. The event will take place on May 10, 2004, at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and will feature music from the FINAL FANTASY videogame series. The concert will be running in the week of E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo), the largest interactive entertainment trade show in the U.S.
