This coming Wednesday, October 10, the first issue of DC Comics' three-issue mini-series, CAPTAIN CARROT AND THE FINAL ARK, co-created by Scott Shaw! and Roy Thomas, hits stands. WHV Announces Blade Runner: The Final Cut

In honor of its 25th anniversary, Ridley Scott will be offering up BLADE RUNNER: THE FINAL CUT, first launching theatrically Oct. 5 in L.A. and New York and then debuting Dec. 18 on DVD, Blu-ray and HD DVD. Scott has gone back into post-production to create the long-awaited, definitive version of this post-apocalyptic, dystopian vision of L.A., digitally restored and remastered from original elements and scanned at 4K resolution.

The 13th Slamdance Film Festival will be held January 18-27, 2007 in Park City Utah. Our focus is on first time filmmakers. The festival has separate juried awards for animation, documentary, experimental, narrative, and short films. Slamdance can exhibit mini-Dv, DV-cam, Digi-Beta, and 35mm. Blade Runner: Final Cut to Arrive in 2007 for 25th Anniversary

Warner Home Video has retained long-term rights to Ridley Scott's BLADE RUNNER, reports VARIETY, paving the way for a new FINAL CUT in 2007 in honor of the 25th anniversary of the influential sci-fi thriller based on Philip K. Dick's novel. A limited theatrical release of the FINAL CUT will be followed by a collector's edition DVD containing all four versions of the Harrison Ford-starrer (including theatrical version, director's cut and international version).

Special Extended Return of the King DVD to Street Dec. 14

Its official: The four-disc THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING SPECIAL EXTENDED DVD EDITION (New Line Home Ent., $39.99) will hit stores on Dec. 14. Final Fantasy VII Advent Children To Be Screen At Venice

Square Enix Co., Ltd. has announced that it will screen a special preview edition of the upcoming FINAL FANTASY VII ADVENT CHILDREN at the 61st Venice International Film Festival, September 1-11 in Venice, Italy. The film is a direct-to-DVD CG-animated sequel to FINAL FANTASY VII, one of the best-selling PlayStation videogames of all time. FINAL FANTASY VII ADVENT CHILDREN will be shown as part of "Venezia Digitale," the new digital image category of the festival. In a unique move showing the increased fan following for videogame stories, Square Enix has announced that it will release a DVD sequel to its 1997 hit game, FINAL FANTASY VII, reports VARIETY. The CGI animated feature, FINAL FANTASY VII ADVENT CHILDREN, will continue the story of the game, which sold more than 9 million units worldwide. No release date has been set. The first move into film for this popular gaming franchise was the 2001 photoreal feature FINAL FANTASY, which was a disaster at the box office.
