Premiere 2005 Animation & Video Festival

The Art Institute of Seattle is set to host the Premiere 2005 Animation & Video Festival. The event provides a vehicle for emerging student artists and alumni of the college to showcase their work. From 2D to 3D, stop-motion to pencil tests, from trailers to commercials and from wacky to weighty, mini documentaries and more, approximately 40 works will be shown and awards will be given. The evening features a special guest appearance by Will Vinton, best known as the creator of the pop culture phenomenon, the California Raisins.

eDIT 8. Filmmaker’s Festival Reports Record Attendance

eDIT 8. The Filmmakers Festival, which took place Oct. 9-11 in Frankfort, Germany, enjoyed an increased participation of almost 50% over the previous year, a fact that could clearly be seen in the full theaters. In addition to the 2,300 professional visitors there were 350 guests from the media industry, politics and business, along with 130 international speakers and around 120 accredited journalists.

The West Chester Film Festival is now accepting submissions for 2005.

This festival is a competition. The Award Categories are: Best Animation, Best Comedy, Best Documentary, Best Drama, Best Experimental/Art Film, Best Student Film, Audience Favorite, and Pennsylvania Filmmaker.

Film length must be 30 minutes or less.

There is no limitation on when or where the short was produced.

Entries may be submitted on DVD or VHS tape, however, films must be on a DVD for exhibition.

International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film

The 2004 DIY Book Festival celebrates the success of independent authors and publishers. The DIY Book Festival will consider self-published or independent publisher non-fiction, fiction, children's books, how-to, photography/art, comics, 'zines, fan fiction, poetry and e-books released after Jan. 1, 2003. All entries must be in English and have been self-published or issued by an independent house that has published less than 50 works since the entry cut-off point. The grand prize for the 2005 DIYBF Author of the Year is $1,000 cash and a flight to Los Angeles for the awards ceremony.

Australia Highlight At Seoul Festival

As part of the official program of the Seoul International Cartoon & Animation Festival, the Australian Embassy will support an Australian animation showcase with a series of internationally recognized animated shorts from Australia. Films include Bruce Petty's LEISURE (Academy Award winner for best animated short in 1976), Adam Elliot's HARVIE KRUMPET (Academy Award winner for best animated short 2004) and Park Sejong's BIRTHDAY BOY (Oscar nomination for best animation short 2005). In addition to the screenings, Australian animation experts will host discussions during the event.
