In conjunction with its trip to MIPCOM, Entertainment Rights has announced its acquisition of the TV and video rights to TRANSFORMERS ENERGON, the next chapter in the TRANSFORMER franchise. The new 52x30 minute episodes follow up the success of TRANSFORMERS ARMADA. Picking up where Armada left off, Energon follows the defeated evil Unicron and Megatron teaming up to take over Earth.

AXN Expands, Tom Davidson Named General Manager

Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) continues to expand its global cable and satellite networks portfolio with the launch next month of AXN in six European countries -- Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria. As part of that expansion, Tom Davidson has been named new network's gm, based in Budapest, according to Darren Childs, svp of international networks, Sony Pictures Television International (SPTI).

Corsham Entertainment Starts 2D Australian Feature

Corsham Entertainment, a new TV and film production company in the U.K., is developing IN FOR THE KRILL, a 2D animated feature from Australian director Greg Holfeld. This dark "penguin-noir" is a follow up to his short "BLACK AND WHITE RED ALL OVER," a feature shown at the St. Kilda and Adelaide International Film Festivals and is making the international festival circuit.

LevyMann Ent. Brings itty bitty HeartBeats to Toys

LevyMann Entertainment has entered into an agreement with Toys "R" Us to release its direct-to-video, animated musical pre-school series, ITTY BITTY HEARTBEATS. As part of the deal, Toys R Us will also carry a combo pack featuring a VHS of four eleven-minute episodes, a musical CD and two plush toys of the series' lead characters, CoolHeart and SweetHeart. All products will be exclusive to all Toys "R" Us stores beginning October 21, 2003, before launching wide 30 days later.

British Trio Starts Corsham Entertainment

Corsham Entertainment, a new TV and film production company in the U.K., has been formed by Oscar-winning Gary Kurtz (producer of AMERICAN GRAFFITI, STAR WARS, THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and DARK CRYSTAL), Richard Bazley (a lead animator on Disneys HERCULES and POCAHONTAS plus Warner Bros.' IBM & Threshold Sign Feature Pact

IBM and Threshold Digital Research Labs have signed a four-year, multi-million dollar deal to increase Thresholds production output. AMC has committed to its first original animated series, THE WRONG COAST, which lampoons the world of celebrity entertainment news shows. Entertainment Rights Signs Transformer Deal

U.K.-based Entertainment Rights Plc has signed an exclusive distribution deal with Rhino Home Video for the North American home video and DVD distribution rights to Hasbro's TRANSFORMERS ARMADA animated TV series. Previously, Entertainment Rights secured the international television, and video and DVD rights to the series. The company announced the sale of the show to more than 70 countries, including Sky One and GMTV in the U.K., Teletoon in France, Cartoon Network and Telecinco in Spain, Fox Kids in Italy and Cartoon Network in Australia. The series currently airs in the U.S.

Stan Lee’s POW! Signs Deal with DIC

POW! Entertainment and DIC Entertainment have signed a joint venture development deal for a slate of original properties aimed at the kids TV market. DIC will work directly with Stan Lee and POW! to develop and produce the new animated television series. DIC will retain the rights to distribute the programs globally. First in line will be STAN LEES THE SECRET OF THE SUPER SIX -- a superhero-based animated series with a humanitarian spin that will feature Lee as a main character.

Portfolio Entertainment Ups Two

Canadian TV execs are on the move to Toronto-based Portfolio Entertainment which has named Kate Horton as creative director and Stephen R. Kelley as head of sales and acquisition. Horton, previously director of development at Cabium Entertainment, where she produced MONSTER BY MISTAKE, then oversaw the development and implementation of a successful merchandising program for the show, which generated books, plus dolls and home video product. Horton will seek development partnerships for Portfolio.

Reilly Leaves FX for NBC

FX entertainment president Kevin Reilly is ankling his post to join NBC as president, primetime development. In the new position, Reilly will oversee the NBC Studios division and the network's development department. Reilly worked at NBC in development in the late 1980s and early '90s. He went on to Brillstein-Grey Entertainment for six years before moving to the top programming job at FX in 2000. There he raised the channel's profile with projects such as THE SHIELD and LUCKY.

L.A.SIGGRAPH will delve into THE MATRIX RELOADED and the ENTER THE MATRIX video game on June 17, 2003, 7:30 pm at Covel Commons on the UCLA Campus in Westwood. Entertainment Rights Gains Barbie Swan Lake, Loses Licensing

London-based Entertainment Rights (ER), a leading media firm in the ownership and distribution of children's and family entertainment, has some good news and some bad news. ER has a distribution deal with Mattel Inc. for U.K. rights to the next Barbie CGI feature, BARBIE OF SWAN LAKE, but has also announced that Mattel will not be renewing the licensing agreement with ER subsidiary Link Licensing for the U.K. representation of certain non-doll Barbie merchandise and publications.
