Highlights include: Audio Track, Business Track, Video Track, Apple Certified Pro Training on DVD Studio Pro and Final Cut Pro, Classes on HD and Digital Photography, One-Day Lighting Intensive, Two-Day Digital Video Documentary Crash Course and the all-new Xtreme Video & Photo Summit, featuring courses on extreme video. The conference runs July 12-16 with the expo and Xtreme Video & Photo Summit running July 14-16. The event will take place at the Jacob K.

HPA Offers Post-Production School Program

The Hollywood Post Alliance is presenting the 2004 Summer School Program, a tutorial on post-production. The program will run from July 23 - 24, 2004. The workshop will kick off on July 23 with drinks and hors doeuvres at 6:00 pm followed by as case study on SPIDER-MAN 2 at 7:00 pm.

Levinsohn Appointed Digital Media/Pay TV Pres for Fox

Fox Filmed Ent. upped Peter Levinsohn to president, Digital Media and Worldwide Pay Television. In this new role, Levinsohn will be responsible for managing digital media strategy for Fox, including leading the effort to establish robust content protection measures in the digital media marketplace; identifying content distribution opportunities; pursuing long-term strategic initiatives with major technology players; and developing opportunities to maximize the value of film and television product in emerging digital platforms. In this capacity he will work closely with the Fox Ent.

Church Selected EXPOSÉ 2 Grand Master

Ryan Church, concept design supervisor at Industrial Light & Magic (STAR WARS EPISODES I, II and III) is the Grand Master award winner for EXPOSÉ 2, the latest in the series of digital art books from Ballistic Publishing that will begin shipping in July. The Grand Master is awarded to an artist exhibiting outstanding skill and contribution to the advancement of digital art. A graduate of Art Center, Church began his career at Walt Disney Imagineering (blue-sky concepts for future theme parks) before freelancing at Universal and hiring on at ILM in digital feature production.

Boston U Offers 3D Animation, Game and Visual Effects Certificates

The new Center for Digital Imaging Arts (CDIA) at Boston University is enrolling students of all ages and experience levels for a variety of certificate programs and workshops in digital filmmaking, photography, 3D animation, game design and visual effects.

Students may sign up for intensive training through a nine-month certificate program or basic skills through a foundation certificate or workshop series. Courses range from Beginning Photography for the Digital Age to Digital Film Boot Camp and all levels of Photoshop, editing, lighting and real-world assignments.

LACDA Digital Art Competition

Los Angeles Center For Digital Art announces its juried competition featuring digital art. Entrants submit three JPEG files of original work. All styles of artwork and photography created digitally suitable for wide format output will be accepted. Show is open to artists of all geographical locations. The selected winner receives 10 archival prints of their work up to 44x60 inches on canvas or museum quality paper to be shown in a solo exhibition in our gallery. The show will be widely promoted and will include a reception for the artist.

Digital Video, the makers of Toonz animation software, has launched TAB 2.2, the new version of its paperless animation software, tailored to create original animation content for the Web. Based on a new technology that includes an intuitive vector handling technique that uses dynamic control points and an adaptive fill system, the TAB allows animators to draw in a natural and intuitive way.

Passion of the Christ Coming to DVD

Mel Gibson's biblical blockbuster, THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST, will debut on DVD Aug. 31, 2004 (Fox Home Ent., $29.98) in a bare bones single disc edition, presented at the maximum bit rate. So don't expect any nifty bonus features for at least a year, including how Keith Vanderlaan's Captive Audience handled the numerous digital effects that were supervised by Ted Rae.

As of May 9, THE PASSION has grossed $360M domestically and $222M overseas.

Van Helsing to Launch 2004 Digital Screening Series

VAN HELSING will screen digitally for free, followed by a Q&A with producer/editor Bob Duscay to launch the 2004 Digital Screening Series at the Hollywood Pacific Theater on May 24 at 7:00 pm.

VAN HELSING represents the first in what will be an expanded and improved summer digital screening series. This is the second year the series is being held.
