Eisner Award Nominees Announced

The 2009 Eisner Awards nominees were announced on Wednesday. Ballots with this year's nominees will be going out in mid-April to comics creators, editors, publishers, and retailers. A downloadable PDF of the ballot will also be available online, and a special website has been set up for online voting. The results in all categories will be announced in a gala awards ceremony on the evening of Friday, July 24 at Comic-Con International.

Capcom Signs Battlestar Composer to Create Score for Dark Void

Composer Bear McCreary, known best for his work on popular sci-fi TV series BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, has signed on to score Capcom's third-person action game, DARK VOID. He has gained international renown over the last few years for his amazing work on BATTLESTAR, and DARK VOID marks the first time McCreary will be creating the score for a videogame.

Dark Knight, Benjamin Button Win Art Directors Guild Awards

THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON won for Period Film, and THE DARK KNIGHT for Fantasy Film, at the 13th Annual Art Directors Guild Excellence in Production Design Awards. The awards were held Saturday in Beverly Hills, and also honored George Lucas and Paul Sylbert.

At this Sunday's Academy Awards, CHANGELING, THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON, THE DARK KNIGHT, THE DUCHESS and REVOLUTIONARY ROAD will be up for the Oscar for Art Direction.

WALL-E Wins Best Pic from Online Film Critics, Dark Knight Nabs Four Prizes

WALL-E was named the Best Picture of 2008 by the Online Film Critics Society, also nabbing a trophy for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Screenplay from Andrew Stanton and Jim Reardon. (Per REUTERS).

THE DARK KNIGHT got four prizes, including Best Director for Christopher Nolan, Best Supporting Actor for Heath Ledger, Cinematography for Wally Pfister and Original Score for James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer.

Hollywood Reporter Releases Their Say on Best of 2008

Despite topping the Los Angeles Critics Association's list for the best film of 2008, WALL-E makes only a slight appearance on THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER's critics' individual lists, despite four REPORTER critics' membership to the association. The Disney-Pixar film appears on three lists and on none of the top spots.

WALTZ WITH BASHIR also gets a nod at the top and in the middle of the pack for two critics.

China Won't See Dark Knight

Warner Bros. will not release THE DARK KNIGHT in China, according to VARIETY.

According to a statement Tuesday, "Based on a number of pre-release conditions that are being attached to THE DARK KNIGHT as well as cultural sensitivities to some elements of the film, we have opted to forego a theatrical release of the film in China," the studio said.

THE DARK KNIGHT hits the street on December 9 as Warner Bros.' first home entertainment release to include Internet-enabled interactive features exclusive to the Blu-ray format. Batman, Indy & Iron Man Battle To Be People's Choice

Who will reign as the People's Choice? Batman, Indy or Iron Man? The nominees for the 35th annual People's Choice Awards were announced Monday.

Queen Latifah will host the show, which will air life January 7 from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Anyone can vote for their favorites in more than 40 categories, including new categories for favorite superhero, TV drama diva and movie cast.

The MPSE Sound Show returns with an exploration of the sonic world of this summer's blockbuster Batman movie THE DARK KNIGHT.

Join Oscar and Golden Reel winning supervising sound editor/sound designer Richard King (WAR OF THE WORLDS, MASTER AND COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD, SIGNS) as he presents his process of creating the film's soundscape. Excerpts of the movie will be presented with special "pre-dubb" mixes to illustrate the variety of elements used to create an environment of serious sound.

Dark Knight To Swoop Back Into Theaters In January

Warner Bros. is planning to re-release THE DARK KNIGHT to theaters in January, at the height of the Academy Awards voting season, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

"It's just a matter of bringing it back as a reminder for people," a studio insider said, furthering speculation that WB will lobby for Oscar nominations for director Christopher Nolan, actor Heath Ledger and perhaps more.

Ledger's performance as The Joker has especially been garnering Best Supporting Actor talk since the film's July 18 release.

Horror Film Developed Online Headed For Distribution

The first feature film to be developed entirely over the Internet and distributed in theatres nationwide, PERKINS' 14, is currently in post production, in preparation for a release in January 2009 as part of the After Dark Horrorfest. What a year ago may have been a fleeting YouTube sensation now has the potential for box office success. The film is produced by After Dark Films and Massify, the online production network founded by Brett Icahn and Kenneth Woo.

Dark Knight Lights Up Midnight Showings

THE DARK KNIGHT's 12:01 a.m. screenings Thursday night broke a box office record, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

Warner Bros. reported Friday that the late night/early morning screenings earned a record $18.5 million, $640,000 of that coming from IMAX screenings.

And, that $18.5M doesn't count the 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. showings that some theaters booked, only the 3,040 theaters screening at midnight.

Kmart Partners With WB Consumer For Dark Knight

Kmart has partnered with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, on behalf of DC Comics, for a multi-channel entertainment marketing promotion supporting the July 18 release of the upcoming action-adventure, THE DARK KNIGHT. Kmart will serve as the "Official Batman Headquarters" with a product boutique at the front of the store. Dark Knight Opens Larger-Than-Life In IMAX

Concurrently with THE DARK KNIGHT's debut in commercial 35mm and digital theatres, THE DARK KNIGHT: The IMAX Experience will be released in IMAX theatres July 18, 2008.

THE DARK KNIGHT: The IMAX Experience will feature six sequences filmed with IMAX cameras (including the opening six minutes).
