DC Comics Hires Noveck to Exploit Superheroes

DC Comics has named Gregory Noveck to the newly formed post of svp, creative affairs. He will oversee the exploitation of the DC characters in feature films and television at Warner Bros. and New Line as well as developing outside creative alliances. The bi-coastal exec will report to DC publisher and president Paul Levitz.

WBA Gets Goes Action-Adventure With Poindexter

Roland Poindexter has been named to the new position of svp of action-adventure properties for Warner Bros. Animation, responsible for developing this programming for broadcast, cable and made-for-video outlets. Poindexter will also be responsible for supervising creative direction of selected current series in all genres and developing animated specials for kids, as well as adults.

The promos, created for popular game maker Electronic Arts, in conjunction with Arnson Communications, were specifically designed to promote EA's new games at the annual E3 (Electronics Entertainment Expo) conference in Los Angeles.

Boston-based Viewpoint Studios produced the theatrical, television and radio advertising campaigns for Discovery Channels newest special presentation, NEFERTITI RESURRECTED, which premieres August 17, 2003 at 8:00 pm, with rebroadcasts Aug. 18 at 12:00 and 3:00 am plus Aug. 24 at 10:00 am and 4:00 pm.

WB Animation Ups Keenan to SVP of Creative Affairs

Christopher Keenan has been promoted from vp to svp of creative affairs for Warner Bros. Animation, it was announced by Sander Schwartz, president of WBA. Keenan will be responsible for developing new animated television series, made-for-video projects, animated specials and cartoon shorts, as well as supervising production of television series. He will continue to report directly to Schwartz.

Vinton Shopping Quest Project

"I'm definitely on my way back from hell," Will Vinton told AWN, a few months after the studio he founded, Vinton Studios, gave him the boot. The king of Claymation claims he is much happier now, having signed with Creative Artists Agency and is shopping around a number of animated projects, including a feature film script, THE QUEST, written by Peter Crabbe.

Weiss To Market Universal TV Domestic & International

Dan Weiss has been named evp of worldwide marketing for Universal's domestic and international television divisions. In his newly created post, Weiss will oversee all marketing functions for both the domestic and international TV markets, including worldwide pay-per-view and video-on-demand with campaigns for universal's sales of network and first-run series, off-network programming and motion pictures. Departments under worldwide marketing reporting to Weiss include affiliate relations and advertising, communications, promotions-partnerships and creative services.

Speakers/Papers Needed For College Art Assoc. Conference

The College Art Association's Annual Conference is looking for speakers to present papers on a panel/session "Fine Art and Experimental Animation: Creative and Theoretical Affinities" during the conference Februrary18-21, 2004 in Seattle, Washington. Deadline to submit papers in English from proposed speakers is May 12, 2003. PS Creative Making Spots and Stings

PS Creative, based in Birmingham, England, has finished off a commercial spot and a sting (British broadcasting jargon for an interstitial or bumper in the U.S.) for its U.K. clients S4C and Drayton Manor. Welsh broadcaster S4C commissioned the company to produce a :10 animated sting. PS Creative director Nicola Scurlock used a handheld Super 8 to shoot nature footage he digitally combined using Adobe AfterAffects and Photoshop with a hand drawn animation overlay to create "Spectrum," which explores the delicate touches of nature, light and colors of spring.

Guru Brands YTV With Creative Characters

The crew at guru animation studio in Toronto was recently presented a Silver Promax/BDA award for their work on 3 of 15 "very, very short films" for Canada's YTV network. Begun in July 2001, the spots were commissioned for YTV's 2001 fall branding campaign. The 3 1/2 second spots feature various characters, each of whom convey an abstract emotion, a weird concept or just a simple visceral pleasure.

Super-Fi Knows What A Guy Wants

The program names alone are enough to inspire a bounty of images: MTVs ASS KICKING CHICKS and WHAT A GUY WANTS are two new projects to come from the creative team at digital content studio Super-Fi. Led by creative director Daniel Garcia and executive producer John Yuiska, the projects were fun adventures that afforded the Super-Fi team a great deal of creative freedom.
