Calon TV Acquires Rights to Back Catalogue

Independent TV production company Calon TV has secured the distribution rights to its back catalogue of award-winning children's animation. Studio manager Lynne Stockford has been appointed to manage international sales following the reversion of the distribution rights from S4C International.

The list of programs includes such hits as the BAFTA-winning HANA'S HELPLINE, which currently airs on Five; Welsh language classic SALI MALI; '80s fav WIL CWAC CWAC, UNDER MILK WOOD and the feature film THE PRINCESS AND THE GOBLIN.

Imagi Gets Money to Complete Astro Boy, Restructures

Asian-based CG-animated movie studio Imagi International Holdings will have enough money to complete feature film project ASTRO BOY. The company raised about $25 million to finish the film and will release it on time on October 23, 2009.

Imagi will still have to raise additional financing to ramp up production of films currently scheduled for release in 2010 and 2011 before box office receipts come in for ASTRO BOY.

Peter Chernin to Step Down as President, COO of News Corp in June

Peter Chernin, News Corporation's President and Chief Operating Officer and CEO of the Fox Group, will step down when his contract expires on June 30, 2009. The Los Angeles-based Fox businesses will report directly to Chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch upon Chernin's departure.

Chernin will launch a Fox-based production company later this year, among other ventures.

VFX studio Rhythm & Hues will start developing feature projects as well as open a new studio in Asia for work on an all-CG feature, per VARIETY.

The Culver City-based company has hired Vanguard's Venecia Duran as director of development and has accelerated plans for a Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia facility. The development department is now taking script submissions and hopes to make an announcement on a feature co-production in a few months.

C21 MEDIA is reporting that U.K. children's branding firm Entertainment Rights has been fined a 245,000 GBP by the Financial Services Authority for failing to disclose an anticipated $14 million reduction to its profit to the stock exchange.
