Chris Waldron Named VP, Gaming Operations for Cartoon Network

Chris Waldron has been promoted to the position of vice president, gaming operations for Cartoon Network, it was announced today by Paul Condolora, senior vice president, digital for Turner Broadcasting's Animation, Young Adults & Kids Media group. Waldron is now responsible for overseeing Cartoon Network's game development studio, game production, and overall games strategy for Cartoon Network Digital. Waldron is based in Atlanta and reports directly to Condolora.

Camelot Reborn at Cartoon Network

Cartoon Network will bring REBORN (working title) to the small screen, a re-telling of the legend of King Arthur that will be live action, per THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

The toon network has been pushing toward the live-action side, with more than half of their new 19 shows and movies to be live action. Lionsgate president of motion picture production Alli Shearmur will exec produce with Travis Wright, who also wrote the project.

Cartoon Network Asia Adds to Lineup

Cartoon Network Asia has announced a lineup of new cartoons that will be joining its current roster of animated shows.

Along with current shows BEN 10, BEN 10: ALIEN FORCE and STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS, these new cartoons will include original series L.O.S.E., JIMMY TWO SHOES, MATT'S MONSTERS and CREEP SCHOOL and familiar favorites such as THE GARFIELD SHOW and season two of STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS.

marblemedia Brings Skatoony Across the Pond

marblemedia has acquired the North American format rights to produce a version of the popular Cartoon Network U.K. series SKATOONY. Currently in its third season on Cartoon Network, the successful television program pits real kids against cartoon characters in an animated quiz game show format.

The first season enters production this spring and will shoot 13 half-hour English and 13 half-hour French episodes. The series, aimed at kids aged 8 to 12, has been commissioned for TELETOON Canada and is set to premiere in Spring 2010.

Clone Wars Heads to Cartoon Networks Around the Galaxy

Lucasfilm Animation's STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS will debut internationally on 23 different feeds of Cartoon Network in 19 languages on Feb. 13.

The show, which is wrapping up its run on the U.S. Cartoon Network before heading over to TNT, will air in Australia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Southeast Asia (Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore) and Taiwan starting Feb. 13.

Cartoon Network Goes Looney in New Year

Cartoon Network will broadcast a 14-hour New Year's Day marathon of classic Warner Bros. cartoons, according to CartoonBrew.com.

Starting with THE WABBIT WHO CAME TO SUPPER at 6 a.m. on January 1, 2009, the marathon will include 95 shorts spanning four decades. The marathon will conclude at 7 p.m. with Chuck Jones’ ONE FROGGY EVENING, DUCK AMUCK, DUCK DODGERS and WHAT’S OPERA DOC?. The entire schedule is posted on the Termite Terrace Trading Post forum.

Gene Colan Wins Cartoon Art Museum's Sparky Award

Gene Colan is the recipient of the 2008 Sparky Award, which was presented to him by Cartoon Art Museum's founder Malcolm Whyte during the museum's "Salute to Gene Colan" on Thursday, December 4, 2008.

The Sparky Award is named in honor of Charles "Sparky" Schulz, the creator of PEANUTS. Schulz was nicknamed "Sparky" after the horse Sparkplug featured in the comic strip BARNEY GOOGLE. The Sparky Award is presented on behalf of the Cartoon Art Museum and the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Library.
