Lucky 7 Films To Screen at Cartoon Movie 2003

Seven films have been selected to screen at the 5th edition of Cartoon Movie to be held March 13-15, 2003, in Potsdam, Germany. Organized by the European Association Cartoon in collaboration with NFP Teleart in Germany with the support of the Media Programme of the European Union and Berlin-Brandenburg Filmboard, Cartoon Movie offers attending investors, producers and distributors a complete overview of European animation feature films at different stages of production.

Lazzo Goes Adult, Simensky Moves West At Cartoon Network

In response to the greater number of adults tuning into Cartoon Network, the channel has moved Mike Lazzo from SVP of programming to SVP of its ADULT SWIM programming franchise. And in a move that's been in the works for some time, it was confirmed by a Cartoon Network spokesperson that Linda Simensky, SVP of original animation, will move from Turner headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia to the Cartoon Network Studio in Burbank, California to look after new programming initiatives for 2003.

Animation chat rooms are buzzing with the news that Cartoon Network has partnered with Lucasfilm Ltd. to create STAR WARS: CLONE WARS, an interstitial series of 20 animated shorts that will begin airing this fall and continue into 2004. Cartoon Network Offers An Animated Slam-Dunk

Cartoon Network is offering a creative pre-NBA all-star game programming option this weekend. On February 9, 2003, from 12:00-6:00 pm, 12 NBA players will tell viewers about their favorite cartoon characters and introduce some of the best cartoons featuring those characters in a special mini-marathon leading up to tip-off of the NBA all-star game on sister network TNT.

Cartoon Network Has Reindeer Cheer This Holiday Season

Drew Barrymore stars as the voice of Olive, the dog that thinks she's a reindeer in the Emmy-nominated animated holiday special OLIVE, THE OTHER REINDEER, which makes its Cartoon Network debut on December 14, at 8:00 pm. The animation is based on the illustrations of J. Otto Siebold, who co-authored the titular book with Vivian Walsh. In other reindeer news, Cartoon Network will also screen GRANDMA GOT RUNOVER BY A REINDEER for the first time on that network on December 16 at 8:00 pm.

Cartoon Network Takes To The Skies With British Airways

Cartoon Network is 24-hours a day, 7-days a week and now 30,000 feet in the air. The network has signed a two-year deal with British Airways to provide over two hours per flight of programming for the airline's in-flight entertainment. Beginning December 1, Cartoon Network programming will be available on British Airways long haul flights. The Cartoon Network branded channel will be updated quarterly and feature the Cartoon Network Studios originals THE POWERPUFF GIRLS, JOHNNY BRAVO, DEXTER'S LABORATORY and ED, EDD N EDDY, plus new titles GRIM AND EVIL and TIME SQUAD.

Cartoon Network Latin America Showcases 2003 Line Up

Cartoon Network Latin America has announced its 2003 line-up, which includes the exclusive fifth season launch of POKEMON, the launch of two new Cartoon Network originals and all-new episode premieres of eight Cartoon Cartoons, including DEXTER'S LABORATORY and THE POWERPUFF GIRLS. Home Road Movies Wins 2002 Cartoon d'Or

The 2002 Cartoon dOr has been awarded to Robert Bradbrook for his short film HOME ROAD MOVIES. Also the winner of the Spcial Jury Prize at Annecy 2002, HOME ROAD MOVIES is the real-life story of a shy and awkward father who uses road trips in the family car to help him be a better parent. The film is a mix of 3D animation and live-action. The Cartoon d'Or winner receives 25,000 Euro from MEDIA as a pre-production aid to begin a more ambitious project like a feature film or a TV special. The prize was awarded on September 21, 2002, the closing night of the 13th Cartoon Forum.

Futurama Sees A Future With Cartoon Network

The latest network series refugee to join cable's Cartoon Network is Matt Groening's FUTURAMA. Twentieth Television and Cartoon Network have entered into an agreement for the exclusive cable rights of all 72 episodes of FUTURAMA to begin airing January 2003, during Cartoon Networks late night adult animation block Adult Swim. FUTURAMA chronicles the adventures of Philip J. Fry, a pizza delivery boy who was accidentally frozen on New Years Eve in 1999 while on the job.

Stockholm-based design and animation studio FilmTecknarna Animation has recently completed three spots for Cartoon Network. The studio has produced a number of spots for the Cartoon Network "Shorties" series, including WALLYGATOR, ATOM ANT and JABBERJAW. Cartoon Network Founder Cohen Shops New Project

VARIETY reports that veteran Turner exec Betty Cohen will leave the company to shop a multi-platform program targeted to young adults and teens. Cohen, who began with Turner in 1988 in the on-air promotions department at TNT, went on to oversee the creation and launch of Cartoon Network and served as its senior executive for ten years. In June 2001, she stepped down from her position as president of Cartoon Network Worldwide, but stayed within the AOL/ Time Warner family to develop projects like the one she has on the market.
