Kunis Added to Aronofsky's Black Swan

Actress Mila Kunis is in discussions to star opposite Natalie Portman in Darren Aronofsky's supernatural drama BLACK SWAN, reports THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

The film follows a talented ballerina (Portman) in the New York City Ballet who is tormented by a rival (Kunis) who might or might not be a figment of her imagination. Kunis appeared at last weekend's Comic-Con in San Diego to promote THE BOOK OF ELI with Denzel Washington, as well as her upcoming turns in comedy EXTRACT with Ben Affleck and her voice role on FOX's FAMILY GUY.

Natalie Portman Added to Black Swan Cast

Natalie Portman has been signed on to play the lead in Darren Aronofsky's BLACK SWAN supernatural thriller, per THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

The film, set up at Universal since 2007, and based in the world of New York City ballet, has been changed a bit in the last two years. Universal put the film in turnaround and has been making the rounds at the studios and specialty divisions. Development exec at Aronofsky's Protozoa Pictures, Mark Heyman, has done a re-write of John McLaughlin's original script. Mike Medavoy's Phoenix Pictures and Protozoa are producing.

Black Belt Club to Become Animated Series

LOS ANGELES, CALIF., May 27, 2009 -- Karate master and author Dawn Barnes and animation producer John Drdek signed a deal today to develop THE BLACK BELT CLUB book series into an animated show.

Written by Barnes, THE BLACK BELT CLUB features the adventures of four young black belts who are transported to a magical land ruled by the heroes and monsters of ancient myths. Published by Scholastic, the first three books in the illustrated series have sold more than 250,000 copies worldwide.

Rourke, Johansson Set For Iron Man 2

Mickey Rourke and Scarlett Johansson have signed deals with Marvel to star as Russian villains (for him, Crimson Dynamo, for her, Black Widow), according to DEADLINE HOLLYWOOD DAILY.

DHD also reports that Rourke's deal was a "significant" amount compared to Marvel's original offer of $250,000, but that Johansson's was a "terrible deal" in comparison.

Snyder Discusses Extended Versions of Watchmen

Director Zack Snyder confirmed that there will be two longer versions of WATCHMEN on Blu-ray and DVD in July at today's press junket in Beverly Hills: an extended "Tales of the Black Freighter" edition, which will run around three-and-a-half hours, and a director's cut (sans the "Black Freighter" animated sequence), which will run about three hours and 10 minutes. Meanwhile, the theatrical cut, which bows in theaters March 6 from Warner Bros., has a running time of approximately 155 minutes.

Tales of the Black Freighter Trailer Now Online

MTV NEWS has the first trailer for TALES OF THE BLACK FREIGHTER, the story-within-a-story from WATCHMEN.

Featuring the voice of Gerard Butler, the animated special feature will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on March 24 from Warner Home Video.

WATCHMEN debuts in theaters and IMAX on March 6.

Emily Blunt Rumored For Black Widow in Iron Man 2

Emily Blunt, who will be seen next in Universal's THE WOLF MAN, has emerged as a frontrunner to play the role of Natasha Romanoff in IRON MAN 2, per VARIETY.

The character is a Soviet spy who doubles as Black Widow, who wears a skintight black costume enhanced by high-tech weapons. Mickey Rourke and Sam Rockwell are negotiating to play the two key villains in the Marvel Ent. production set for a summer 2010 release from Paramount.

Marvel did not comment on casting for Black Widow. Justin Theroux is writing the script that Jon Favreau will direct.

Jack Black will play the title role in Twentieth Century Fox's adaptation of GULLIVER'S TRAVELS, per VARIETY.

SHARK TALE director Rob Letterman will direct the film about free-spirited travel writer Lemuel Gulliver, who washes ashore on an island of tiny people called Lilliputians while on assignment in the Bermuda Triangle. This new version would be a contemporary re-imagining of the classic 1726 tale from author Jonathan Swift.

Visual Effects Artist Eric Algren Dies at 32

Eric Algren passed away unexpectedly on May 25, 2007, at the age of 32, reports the BIG CARTOON DATABASE.

His most recent work was as a Flame artist on FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER. He also served as a digital compositor on the upcoming sci-fi thriller THE INVASION, which is set for release in the U.S. on Aug. 17.

He worked for such companies as Hydraulx, Digital Domain and Creo for projects including 300, X-MEN: THE LAST STAND, AEON FLUX, LITTLE MAN, FAILURE TO LAUNCH and TITANIC. In 2000, he was an animation assistant on Disney's DINOSAUR.
