The April Acrobat issue of Animation World Magazine is now online! In this issue, check out what's happening in the business side of animation. South Parks Boys Learn About History While Making TV History

The SOUTH PARK boys learn about the politics of war and the consequences of homework in the 100th episode, "I'm A Little Bit Country," which premiered at 10:00 pm April 9, 2003 on COMEDY CENTRAL and with repeats at 12:00 am on April 11, at 10:30 p.m. on April 12, as well as 2:00 a.m. and at 11:00 pm on April 13. Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman join in anti-war protests in order to get out of school and find themselves in the middle of the opposing sides of the war issue. Mr. Garrison, an extreme supporter of the war, retaliates by assigning them book reports on the country's founding fathers.

CASTLE IN THE SKY

Oscar winning director Hayao Miyazaki's classic CASTLE IN THE SKY is having its only American theatrical presentation at the Newport Beach Film Festival on Saturday, April 6 at 8:30 pm at the Regency Lido Theatre, located at 3459 Via Lido, Newport Beach, California. This special 35mm screening features an expanded score by composer Joe Hisaishi and the voice talents of James van der Beek, Andy Dick, Mark Hamill, Cloris Leachman, Anna Paquin and Mandy Patinkin.

Monkey Gets Down To Business At Cartoon Network On April Fool's Day

Some critics say that a monkey can make better decisions than a TV programming executive, while others, especially in the Animation Nation chatroom, say monkeys run production and broadcasting companies. To prove a point, Cartoon Network brought an actual chimpanzee (technically an ape, not a monkey), named Jimbo in to select the cartoons from CN's programming library during its April Fools' Day Monkey Marathon April 1, 2003 from 8:00 a.m.-11:00 pm (ET/PT). Jimbo picked a lineup of toons starring monkeys and apes in prominent roles.

Humanitas Deadline April 1

Time is running out to submit scripts from TV and film productions for The Humanitas Prize, which affirms human values in entertainment. Animation writers may compete for $10,000 in the children's teleplay category. TV programs must have been broadcast between April 2002 and April 2003 to qualify. Applications are due April 1, 2003, the winners will be announced in July 10, 2003 in Los Angeles. For submission forms visit www.humanitasprize.org.

10th Annual Midwest Animators Conference

10th Annual Midwest Animators Conference: Friday, April 26 - Sunday, April 28, 2002, Downers Grove (suburban Chicago), Illinois USA. The Gemini Awards is the top honor in television from the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television. Programs eligible for this year's event must have aired between May 1, 2000 and April 30, 2001. The 1st entry deadline (March 8, 2001) is for programs aired between May 1 - August 31, 2000. The 2nd entry deadline (March 22, 2001) is for programs aired between September 1 - November 30, 2000. The 3rd entry deadline (April 5, 2001) is for programs aired between December 1, 2000 - April 30, 2001. The opening gala will take place on October 27, with the industry gala following on October 28.

Bill Plympton Around The World

Bill Plympton has updated his appearances page. In the upcoming months, "Mutant Aliens" will be screening at: SXSW Festival, Austin, Texas, March 12-20; Arizona International Film Festival, Tuscon, Arizona, April 19-29; and Philadelphia Festival of World Cinema, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, April 26-May 7. Bill will be attending all of these events. "Guns on the Clackamas" will be appearing at CineAmbigu, Barcelona, Spain, in April.

The all-new TOM & JERRY short, "The Mansion Cat," which aired on Cartoon Network UK during New Year's, will hit Cartoon Network's Boomerang Network on Sunday, April 8, 2001.
